In general the more leftist regions seem to support this initiative, although party wise, Labor is divided on the issue, Federalist leans against it, and PRO is 100% supportive. Independents seem opposed.

I haven't heard the arguments against this, what are they?

Probably "bureaucracy" or the fact that there's no enforcement mechanism to make it so. A lot of times, people just knee-jerk on things like this, too.

As a former GM, though, I can't emphasize enough how we need statute added to the Wiki in a timely fashion. I just wish the referendum had some stipulation that if legislation is not added to the Wiki within two weeks, then it is not law. People take the time to pass the stuff - they should take the time to add it to the Wiki.

The Pacific already has this, the Regional Secretary of the Wiki, and we could probably use positions like this for each region and one or two national ones.

I would tend to agree. With no enforcement mechanism, this initiative is little more than a suggestion. I'd likely vote for it if it were more complete, but as is it doesn't really say anything worthwhile.

Another five "yes" votes would currently be needed to put the initiative above the 60% threshold for adoption.

I spoke to DemPGH about this. I think if the statute passes, the onus is on the Senate to pass something to manage its compliance.

I think there should be some sort of a Wiki Commission (which existed in the past) to make sure that laws make it onto the Wiki.

The only thing I can see having real teeth to it is a measure that specifies a certain period of time in which statute must be added to the Wiki (in this case, two weeks). If the statute in question is not added in that time, then it would be considered repealed. That might be a bit tricky, though.

To be fair, this is only the second initiative to make it to the ballot. Mine was the first to be shot down in a blaze of glory. Tongue Factual statement, though.

If anyone is wondering the Northeast's vote to ratify the federal Ratification Amendment is currently tied 6 to 6.

I have two concerns about this initiative (haven't voted yet and am not sure how I will):

1. What are the consequences of ignoring it?
2. What if Dave ignores one's attempts to gain editing power of the Wiki? Gaining the power itself can take months of trying to contact Dave.

Referenda on citizen initiatives count as federal elections. Failure to vote in three consecutive federal elections results in deregistration. If you have no opinion on the referendum question but wish to avoid missing the election, you may vote "Abstain" and you will be considered, for Census Bureau purposes, to have voted in the election.

And, of course, if you do ever realize that you have missed three consecutive federal elections, you may re-register without delay or penalty.

Sorry for the confusion, but that isn't what I meant to ask. I meant what happens if an elected official ignores the initiative if it is passed, not if I ignore it and don't vote.

I don't think that anything at all would happen. The initiative is phrased in the passive voice:

"Statutes, Constitutional Amendments, and Supreme Court decisions shall be added..."

It does not designate responsibility to specific officials for Wiki maintenance, nor does it create penalties for non-compliance.
