In the current Senate, only Maine, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Vermont fit this category (Missouri is an honorable mention). Do you think this impacts working relationships at all, or do they not take it so seriously?

When it comes to circuit CRT appeals nominees like in cases where they are equally split and prez can change the balance with an ideologue then it does happen to change relationship.

I kinda doubt the fact that Sanders ran a no-chance minor-party campaign against Leahy thirty nine years ago has much impact on their relationship today. But the other examples, it might, especially if the campaign went very negative.

Warren/Brown would be a great delegation for MA, IMO, but I'm not sure how we'll they'd work together.

Enzi narrowly nudged out Barrasso in the competitive 1996 R primary for Simpson's open seat.

Thanks! I couldn't think of a contemporary example of primary opponents serving in the US Senate.

What's funny is that was the first time that the only Democratic Senator in Vermont history was elected.

Absolutely not. Any good politician knows he needs to keep as many allies as possible to get as many working coalitions to pass legislation possible, even if you personally detest the man/woman.

What about Tim Johnson and John Thune in South Dakota in 2002?
