Who do you think will succeed Boehner, whenever his tenure is up? I'll give you two votes so you can choose one Democrat and one Republican. Sorry if I forgot your favorite candidate.

I don't know, but if it's Cantor, I'm going to have to stop watching U.S. television news and reading print news for the sake of maintaining healthy blood pressure levels.

Cantor or Pelosi. No way Pelosi lets Hoyer get the top gig if Becerra or Van Hollen can't get it.

Eric Cantor. The Democrats won't win back the House until 2020 at the earliest.

Pelosi, of course. She'll probably be the House Democrats' Leader until 2018, and the House will be taken back in 2016 if not 2014.

Cantor, then Van Hollen. I don't see Boehner holding the gavel for too much longer, and the Democrats wont retake the House soon enough for it to be Pelosi again or Hoyer to get the oppurtunity.

Well, word is that Pelosi wants to step down, but is staying on long enough to get a liberal successor ready so that Hoyer doesn't just have a clear field.  Though perhaps he'll best whichever Pelosi protege challenges him.  But Cantor seems to have the best chance.

While I do think 2020 is a little late, 2014 is also too early, and 2016 probably is too. I predict the Dems taking back the House in 2018.

Cantor or Hoyer, but Pelosi, Van Hollen, Ryan, and McCarthey are dark horses.

You think this dysfunctional and unpopular GOP Congress will stay in power through both upcoming elections?

It's almost unheard of for a second term President's party to win back the House or Senate. Bush lost both houses, Clinton gained a few House seats but didn't win it back, Reagan lost seats and lost the senate altogether, Nixon lost a lot of seats due to Watergate, Johnson didn't do too well. I'd like to know the last time a president's party has taken back either house in their second term.

Precedent, aside from trivia matters, is usually worthless in cases like this. There's no invisible force enforcing this as some kind of law.

Also, what about 2016?

Personally, I think Pelosi is hanging around just at the chance of having a female President and female Speaker at the same time.

She might be how could we know? You didn't rebuttal any of what I said. A broken government has always been the public's perception and the party in the white house has always been associated with it. I don't know how it can be logically argued that the Democrats are going to win back the House.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers would be cool. Washington's 5th would be the first district to elect two Speakers of different parties.

I'm actually thinking Cantor might get passed over for McMorris. Not sure why though.

No, Republicans took the blame for the government shutdown under Clinton and they continuously are given more blame in polling than Obama.
