It looks as if we have reached the turn of the tide:

CDC: Childhood obesity rates falling in many states

Cathy Payne, USA TODAY
7:17 p.m. EDT August 6, 2013

Obesity rates among preschoolers are falling in many states for the first time in decades, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday.

Small but significant declines in obesity among low-income preschoolers were found in 18 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands from 2008 to 2011, CDC director Thomas Frieden said at a press telebriefing. "This is the first report to show many states with declining rates of obesity in our youngest children after literally decades of rising rates."

The numbers are published in the CDC's latest Vital Signs report. It includes obesity rates from 40 states, the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories. The CDC excluded 10 states because some had changed how they collected data.

Anecdotally, I've noticed people being somewhat more conscious with the food decisions they make.

It probably helps that fast food has significantly declined in both quality and customer service. But hey, what else would you expect from a corporate culture that maximizes profits at the expense of literally everything else?

This is good to hear. Fat kids get made fun of very badly and don't have many friends. What's worse is that most of them don't have many friends when they're young because of their looks, fatness, some of them have the tendency to smell, and the worst part is they're more likely to fart. Imagine bullies always farting on you when you were a kid. The most popular kid at school takes the hottest girl out on a date while the fat kids have to stay home smelling like farts. It just isn't fair.

Very good news although sad to see the rate increased for our healthiest state.
