In honor of Snowguy716, who for some reason or another saw fit to tell me what my idea of freedom is. Go.

For the record, I'm speaking more in specific situations that the preceding person might identify as "freedom", whether it be, for Jack, sipping a cool one (at the legal age!) while a 50x100 foot American Flag swayed in the breeze above him, shading him from the wonderful American sun in his native Florida.

Standing at the altar, arms raised, looking out over the masses, having liberated all from their oppressive atheism and conservative theologies into the new light of Progressive Christianity. After all, if God is not Progressive, then what else can He be? Also, Bill Clinton was just elected to his 6th term last November, a la "Watchmen". For Scott, this, this is freedom.

Sitting behind the desk in the oval office, being free to decide whether to push that red button in his suitcase or just get on the phone and call in the marines.

The Arizona sun beat down hot on young Goldwater. But what did that matter? It was 1996 and President Barry Goldwater, Jr. was about to win re-election that November. Not only was he the second of a great line of American Presidents, but our young hero shared a name with him! He scanned the horizon as he lit a joint and the sun's rays reflected off his aviator shades. Young Goldwater hopped into his convertible sports car and sped off down the highway that had no speed limit.

For the record, the list of Presidents here is comprised largely of Barry Goldwater, at least two Californians, and maybe a Kennedy, Jerry Brown, or a Cold War Liberal to add some "balance". With President Goldwater's "Tear Down This Wall" speech in 1971, the Cold War soon came to a close as the President himself tore down the wall and freed the Eastern bloc from Soviet tyranny. He then flew some sort of private plane into the Kremlin where he lobbed a grenade into the men's bathroom and defoliated Vietnam, winning all of Southeast Asia. His successor, Ronald Reagan, legalized marijuana 'cause he's cool like that in this timeline, and smoked some of it with William F. Buckley. Reagan sadly served only one term since this tl needs to have balance. President Jerry Brown (1977-1985) was known mainly for banging hot women and just being cool. Under him, America was just like "yeah" and had a real good time. President Eastwood was soon to follow, with a similar motto. However, the rise of the Red Chinese as America's next chief foe led to a re-militarization, with millions being poured into the Sun Belt, so now America has absolutely huge nukes stationed across the world. Occasionally, some are launched recreationally by groups of rowdy teenagers.

What is Catchon's idea of freedom? His idea of freedom, you ask? It is, simply, the freedom to sit and shoot the breeze at the lake; to sit in smoky bars watching the nightly news on the monochrome TV; to not have to think (more out of a desire for perceived simplicity than out of malice) about too much to do with race and sex and class; to have a good, probably industrial or managerial job, well-protected in some way or another but probably not through the presence of a strong union; to go to a good, solid, apolitical or vaguely center-right and culturally conservative working-class Catholic parish; to drive powerful cars and drink bitter beer and fire off guns in the woods when he so pleases; to live, in other words, in Michigan as it could be, Michigan as it is perceived to once have been, Michigan as it is dreamed it might be again, the Michigan that has verily opened the door to the new world, withdrawing from the general concourse of humanity's sad history like Hara Setsuko, a Michigan defined by freedom from insecurity and uncertainty and particular types of change, The Michigan That We Dreamed Of.

I feel like Nathan's idea of freedom would be pretty Thoreau-esque: living in a rural area, surrounded by natural beauty, a simple life without many material possessions which means little need to work for money and lots of time to focus on spiritual and intellectual pursuits.

Kitteh's ideal of freedom is some mix of anti-prudish, sex-positive social anarchism and gratuitous amounts of cat gifs.

I'm pretty sure my idea of freedom is significantly more enchanted, in the Weberian sense, than Antonio would be at all comfortable with, opebo, among other things.

For you: Reasonably-priced love.

Sounds like a gift you're planning to give me.

As for Nathan:  His idea of freedom is - it is a bad thing and should be stopped at all costs.
