Does anyone find it funny that people talk about robbing the people blind government surpluses like they are positive things?

Well, I support lowering the top rate to 50%. Do you support that?

It all depends on the basic income bill. I'd be willing to lower the surplus if there was a cost attached to a final version of that. That would give more of a sense of what our deficit will really look like.

I support basically all the cuts in spending, and I don't really care about the tax rates in the abstract (as in if this tax cut meant that services were cut I'd oppose it) but at the same time I don't like the idea of giving a huge tax break to the very wealthiest:

It isn't a tax break though. We had a 50% rate earlier, this proposal moves it to 60% for the "very wealthiest". What Nix is proposing is a tax hike, but let's stop with the semantics game. The top of the top is still getting 60%, it's just we are keeping rates as they were in 2013 for some, smaller millionaires. It's a very fair proposal by Sbane.

Yeah, let's not forget that the current rate is 50%. This is a tax hike. Even what I am proposing would be a tax hike.

Anything below 70% is a break for the fat cats.  Let's not kid ourselves.

Maybe in a world where tax deductions and tax loopholes are at an all time high, but we have also eliminated tons of those.

While it's true that this would not actually be a tax hike for the rich, what I meant was if I were to vote yes I would be lowering the tax rate from what it would be if I were to vote no.

Senator,

If my interpretation of what you're saying is correct, do you believe that, regardless of the rate, it should never be appropriate to lower taxes on the rich?

I won't speak for Bore, but I that's my position, just to interject. The rich should not receive tax relief, period. They receive enough 'relief' as a result of owning the means by which the economy operates.

Obviously if the tax was something like 90% I'd think a reduction would be appropriate, but I don't think 60% is that unreasonable.

45% is my preferred number for present real life situation and I would be willing to go as high as 55% in certain circumstances. Though as I stated previously, I don't think rates above 50% are anything but counterproductive in a variety of ways. It also becomes increasingly so the higher it gets.

5-3-1-1 with Napoleon not voting. It ends tomorrow morning.

I think TNF had something else on his mind.

My schedule looks hectic today, but I may be able to put out something tomorrow.
