Is Reagan talking about the New Deal that he supported?

What Thomas said was 100% correct and look at us now.

Yeah, we're at 1890s levels of laissez-faire plutocracy, bb.

At least Buckley was not a Jew hater to give him his due. The "intellectual" Right at once time tended to be both racist and Jew hating.

Is hating Jews somehow more offensive than hating any other ethnic or religious group?

It is more infamous. Jews "scream bloody murder" about the Holocaust -- maybe because it was bloody murder.

So what exactly is American liberalism in favor of that would not be acceptable to a socialist?

Rombamacare, for one, with its individual mandate to purchase insurance from those evil, evil bloodsucking insurance companies Smiley

No but really: the big difference between the American left and the left in pretty much the rest of the world is that the American left doesn't nationalize industries. The only industry off the top of my head that is nationalized is Amtrak(I guess you could say GM).

It's not for want of trying.  Truman tried to nationalize the steel industry during the 1952 strike, but was slapped down by the courts.

Good thing too. It would've been a disaster.
