Four years after the nation's presidential election and the nation has readied itself for another one. Having only barely survived a constitutional crisis with the first one and with the political system not entirely stable, much is riding on this election. With some factions of the newly formed Federalist party unhappy, there is the chance that the party may not re-nominate Vice President Adams or even John Jay himself. With some in the party nervous about the President's anti-slavery leanings, the Attorney General, Edmund Randolph, is being pushed as a possible replacement. Meanwhile, some wanting an administration to focus more on financial policy instead of foreign policy consider John Hancock should have a closer spot to the throne. Meanwhile, the Republicans, formed from the remnants of the Anti-Federalists as well as those opposed to Jay's nationalist and more anglo-centered policies, are looking for nominees to lead them against Jay. There is last year's candidate, George Clinton, who nearly won, there is the Republicans' legislative leader James Madison, one of the ideological Godfathers of the movement, Senator Jefferson, the iconic Sam Adams, and one  of the New York party leaders, Aaron Burr.

Two choices, two days.

Voted Adams/Adams myself. Surprising the latter isn't running away with this.

It'll be Jay & Adams vs. Jefferson & Clinton, I guess. No idea when it'll be put up.

Without Washington taking an active role in politics, Hamilton would not have been as influential as he was. It's doubtful Jay would have included Hamilton in his cabinet.  Hamilton is either serving in the House or back in New York in this timeline.

I was thinking House, though I have no idea what district.

Most likely the 2nd District.  I don't have access to a district map, but none of the other five districts of the original six were represented by Manhattanites.

However, assuming the electoral history of New York is even remotely similar, Hamilton would have to compete with John Laurance for that seat and quite possibly lose. Without knowledge of what Hamilton might be capable of, I'd probably vote for Laurance, the judge who sentenced Major Andre to hang, over the banker Hamilton.
