ACU= American Conservative Union.  It's been doing its famous ratings for Congress for many years. These are the votes that the ACU used for their 2012 ratings of the House, found here.
+ = voted in favor of ACU position
- = voted against ACU position
X = did not vote

Mark and/or color code what your position is.  Divide the number of votes in favor of ACU position by total (25). If you're not sure of an issue, you can abstain, and subtract that vote from the denominator.

you can also find a list of the ratings of Reps (and Senators) here.

1. Domestic Energy Production (ANWR, KXL) - HR 3408
open up portion of ANWR, approve Kestone XL (bypass State Dept) passed 237-197. ACU supported.

2. Conservative Alternative Budget amendment to H Con Res 112
freeze discretionary spending below 2008 levels, balance budget in 5 years, cut corporate rate from 35 to 25%, eliminate inheritance tax, move Medicare to premium support system and block grant Medicaid. failed 136-285. ACU supported.

3. Federal Land Management (Sportsmen’s Heritage Act) HR 4089
“requires federal officials to facilitate the use of and access to federal lands for the purpose of recreational shooting and hunting” and “prohibits a national monument designation by presidential proclamation from being valid until each affected state approves the designation.”  passed 274-146. ACU supported.

4. Elimination funding for Economic Development Administration - Pompeo Amendment to HR 5326

5. Public-Private Competition (FPI) - Huizenga amendment to HR 5326
allow competition with private companies for products and services the Bureau of Prisons and Federal Prisons Industries sells to other government agencies. failed 199-211. ACU supported.

16/25 = 64.0% -- the exact same amount as Mike Grimm, Richard Hanna, Frank Lucas, Jerry Moran, Mike Turner, Roger Wicker, and Frank Wolf. Some of the votes I only read about glancingly, so I might be persuaded to change some of these/might've voted differently were I actually in Congress.

44 = 11/25 (1,4,9,10,13,14,17,19,20,23)

I'm disappointed that so far only one other person so far has supported number 9.  Folks, political science is about as much a science as is creation science. Even by the lax standards of the social sciences it is flabby and the portions of it with any degree of scientific rigor are covered more generally under other disciplines.  Political science should not be funded thru the NSF.  Maybe the NEH, but definitely not the NSF.  Indeed, the funding of political science thru the NSF has no doubt distorted the study of political science into an over emphasis upon quasi-scientific statistical analysis.

Support 13, undecided on 19.  So... either 4% or 8%.  I guess I can imagine a situation where I'd vote with the ACU on 10 as well, but it would take some convincing.

44 = 11/25 (1,4,9,10,13,14,17,19,20,23)

I do agree that the NEH would be a better source of funding for poli sci research than the NSF... but academic research as a whole is so woefully underfunded compared to its value that I pretty much feel obligated to oppose any attempt to defund any of it, on principle.

Sheilak, voting with the ACA on 7 but not on 21, means you do not want to repeal the PPACA but you would not let the government defend it in court. To me the reverse makes more sense.

Like Vosem and Abbott, some of these might be different (depending on the circumstances) if I were really a Congressman:

19. - (See 4)
20. - (See 4)
21. +
22. + (See 1)
23. - (It would essentially defeat the purpose of the bill, and I would rather leave it as is and vote on that)
24. +
25. - (I'm not a fan of regulation, but I think some is necessary)

Thing is, funding the social sciences via the NSF, even those with a better claim to the title of science than polisci serves to reduce support for NSF funding overall.
