A Bush-Pataki ticket would have been inoffensive, and acceptable. I would say that Gore would win TN, and the election. He would have needed FL. At the time, Gray Davis would have probably been a meh choice, but they win 278-260.

Bush doesn't lose any votes by not picking Cheney, and Pataki's moderation plus the lack of Lieberman to drive up the granny vote in Florida means he probably wins the same way, but we're all spared the month of recounts.
