Immediate family great.

Extended family is mostly bad.

Agreed. Families are made up of awful busybodies that either enforce awful rules or try to shove their help down your throat like the collectivist fascists they are.

Dead or dying off, leaving no issue, or will leave no issue. Close to one brother, estranged from the other.

My family is pretty large, and so there is too much variety there to fit it into one or the other of these choices.

FF, especially my immediate family. When I was younger, I may have questioned this out of frustration at the searching eyes and perceived naivetes of my parents, particularly my mother, or whined about being forced to do this or that against my will, but after having been really gone from them for 5 years and now living in a different state, I must say that many of the decisions I resented at the time were right. I've come to realize that they managed to raise me in a way that was both disciplined and loving. I can remember from when I was very little, my otherwise relatively tough, mom constantly reminding me that no matter I did, no matter how much I screw up she will always love me. It sounded so corny at the time (and to some degree it still does) but I think I can understand now the value of it. I can now see the value of being limited in how much computer time I could get a day until high school. I can now see the value of being forced to do sports. I can now see the value in being forced to go to Mass every Sunday. I can now see the value of being forced to read books. These sorts of things seemed like such a nuisance at the time, but now seem like important good decisions.

When I was little, my parents never really told us how good either of them were at their jobs or how good we were at the things we did. And now with all my siblings grown up, I can see that my whole immediate family really is quite good at their respective professions. I think part of that is that I was raised to expect to do well on everything and was not, no matter what else was true, either give a lack of effort on anything, or complain about having done poorly. I can remember being punished at times of failure, not for having gotten a B in school, but for whining about it.

My immediate family:

My extended family (father's side):

My extended family (mother's side):

Immediate family and mom's side of the family are definitely FFs. We all get along perfectly.

My dad isn't on speaking terms with many of his relatives who have disrespected him, my mother, me and/or our family as a whole on various occasions. I was browsing Facebook the other day and found out that several of my cousins had defriended me and my mother over a personal dispute that I didn't even know had taken place. We could be arguing about anything from money to someone not going to someone else's kid's baptismal dinner. Going to weddings and funerals is just a really mentally and emotionally draining experience.

I love my parents - I unfortunately have a sibling that I have no relationship with, though I am blessed to have a brother and sister-in-law (plus three nephews and a niece) who I care for dearly. Due to my father's mother passing away at a young age and his dad remarrying (cue evil stepmom story), we don't keep in contact with my Dad's side of the family, and unfortunately everyone seems to be caught up in their own little world on my Mom's.

Since I was born late, all of my first cousins are about 10-20 years older than me, and all of my second cousins are 10+ years younger, so I usually don't have anyone my age to hang out with at reunions.

I voted Freedom Family due to some close immediate relationships, but I have some bitterness on my family situation.

Immediate family: FFs

Extended family: An HP or two, but FFs otherwise, especially the family I found on MySpace a few years ago.

My brother is easily the worst person I have ever met. He's a thief, a liar, and a junkie. I haven't seen him in a couple of years and am a better person for it. My parents certainly have their flaws and drive me nuts, but much more in line with what one would expect from "average" people. I miss my grandmother. She was the best!

A collection of lunatics. Though to be honest I probably fit in pretty well if you're looking in from the outside. Didn't vote.

Immedaite family is pretty good.  Mom is a well-meaning, nuturing lefty.  Dad is a freedom-loving pragmatic independent with libertarian leanings.  Sister is a little bratty but very sweet overall.  Mom's side of the family tend to at least approach my incredible brand of progressive leftism.  Dad's side are a bunch of Pubbies, a horrible trait to stain not-so horrible people.  Some of the extendeds are true awfuls, though.

Proud to say I'm BY FAR the most liberal and secular the clan has to offer.

As of recently they've actually been great, but much of my dad's side is either living in a different state or crazy (not literally) though.
