...pending agreements with major cable companies to carry the channel, that is:

Al Jazeera launches US television news service

Al Jazeera America will be available in almost 48 million US households, offering 14 hours of news each day.

The new network replaces Current TV, the cable television network founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, which the Qatar-owned broadcaster acquired in January 2013 for around $500m (£308m).

However, it has yet to sign agreements with major operators, such as Time Warner Cable, to carry the channel.

Al Jazeera America said that they will give less airtime than other US networks to advertising, typically carrying six minutes of adverts each hour, less than the industry average of 15 minutes.

Globally, Al Jazeera is seen in more than 260 million homes in 130 countries.

Even though they're based in a country with a 6,5 Freedom House rating, I could easily see them be a better network than most of the American networks.

Kinda pissed that Current TV is just off the air now but Al-Jazeera will now be my preferred source of television news, aside from MSNBC

Unless of course my mom has AJAM blocked at a later date

Al-Jazeera sponsors terrorism so I don't know how they're going to be watched. Other than Fox though they'll still be better than our liberal bias.

FoX Propaganda Channel is well-suited for people who would be happy under a right-wing regime with a 6,5 Freedom House rating.

Lame. Now I have to use a foreign IP address to watch Al-Jazeera online.

All main stream news outlets exist for the sake of propping up their respective candidates. Fox is no different than MSNBC save their political affiliation. Both serve their political masters loyally.

Probably because of the focus on hard "real" news and international coverage you can't really get from the American networks.

I'm actually a socialist from Pennsylvania. But again, you're in proper position to judge what an illogical post is considering every single post you make is illogical.

At least this network won't portray our endless wars against Muslims as an honorable endeavor.

And the deal Gore made to sell this network reminded me what a hypocrite that liar is. Hope he keeps his mouth shut from now on.

Can't you get the BBC in Pennsylvania or do they do something incorrectly?

You're very close to the truth here. The only thing you're missing is that the "liberal" and "conservative" biases of certain channels are a thin and minor veneer over the corportate and pro-establishment (for lack of a better term) biases of all major media outlets in the US today, as well as the bias towards infotainment and empty non-content inherent of the medium of television. Though I can't fault particularly you for missing that; 95-98% of Americans do, it seems.

Both. The "sponsors terrorism" (though you could make an argument about the nation of Qatar which funds Al-Jazeera being a funder of terrorism) and the "liberal biased media" part. Neither is true.

More power to 'em, but anybody that thinks they are going to be less biased than MSNBC or FoxNews is a fool.

It's sponsored by their bias.

I won't be an avid viewer of Al-Jazeera, but I will say, they made Rumsfeld extremely mad in an interview, which I totally respect.
