It wasn't a gaffe. It was a tacit reference to the Prime Minister, and he obviously hinting at where the Prime Minister plucks his policies.

It was a couple of weeks ago, and there have been more gaffes by both sides since then.

Really?  The fact it was a deliberate reference almost makes it even more funny.

I don't think it was deliberate, that's more the humourous interpretation. He was, however, referring to the PM, who thinks himself to be a very clever man.

This was said in the middle of our election campaign. You should pop up a couple of boards to the International Elections board, there is more stuff there.
