Does Gary Hart make a difference as Mondale's running mate? Let's say the affair is haunting Mondale's campaign but he stands by Gary Hart.

It would further hurt Mondale. I assume Reagan would get Minnesota as well as he lost it a thin margin of 2,000 votes to Mondale. So the electoral result would be 535-3 and the popular vote 60 percent for Reagan instead of 58 in RL.

Beating Reagan in 1984 would have been almost impossible under normal circumstances.
