Over the course of the last few months there has been a push to get the Republican and Democratic parties to change their names, and now that that has failed, there is a push for them to disband.  The rationale for this has been that the Parties unfairly take members away from the other Atlasian parties because of their recognizable party names.

I do agree that this is not good for our political system.  But as I have already stated, I do not believe that either the Republican or the Democratic parties should be forced to disband or to change their names.  I believe that we should formulate a system that is fair to all political parties including the Republicans and Democrats.

One way I think that we could achieve this is by establishing an "Orientation Period."  Other political sims have them and I think that it would advisable for the organization of our forum, too.  Such a period would require that new members who wish to become part of the fantasy elections would have to wait a set time to register (say, a week or two) and during that time all the party chairs would be able to recruit them for membership.  Thus, all parties would have a fair chance at wooing potential members.  I think that this would be a much more fair solution to the problem and that is why I have called on the Senate to introduce a bill that would do just this.

Thanks for hearing me out.

That's not a bad idea actually.  I think it has merit.

Would this mean that independents like myself and Hugh also get to 'woo' people to stay away from party politics completely?

I think it's a good idea in principle, but I wonder about what the next Secretary of Forum Affairs would have to say about having his job take a lot more work.

This is a good idea WiseGuy. I think that this is a very fair way to make sure that new voters know whats going on and what the stances of the major political parties are.

Absolutely!

Good point.  I was actually debating with myself over whether it should be the SoFA or a special deputy SoFA in charge of new registrations.
