Tom Daschle's Schedule

September 1, 2000

Rally at Mountaineer Field, Morgantown, West Virginia (With Robert Byrd, Jay Rockafafeller, and Nick Rahall)

West Virginia, we aren't here to start a war against coal... We're here to regulate coal so that our air stays relatively clean, so that there is coal energy for future generations, and so that we don't have as many serious workplace accidents as in years past... does that sound like a war against coal to you?

Town Hall in Albright, West Virginia

Rally in McKeesport, Pennsylvania
I stand by what I said on the other side of the Country... We need more Bike Lanes! But what we also need are responsible drivers and bikers who know the rules of the road, so any such bike lanes can be put into action effectively.

Rally in Connellsville Pennsylvania

Vice-President Quayle's grades are relevant, not because they're bad, but because he hid them for so long... I mean we know Colin Powell is a genius, and we know that because he didn't hide his grades! What's the harm in people knowing you got an F in Calculus or a D in Physics?

Town Hall in Sutersville, Pennsylvania

September 2

Town Hall in Corapolis, Pennsylvania

Rally in Stuebenville, Ohio

Southeast Ohio has lost more jobs than any other area of the country in the past twenty years... Now while I can't promise you'll get your old jobs back, I can promise that the American Government will help train you, as we move into the Twenty-first century economy!

Town Hall in Union, Kentucky

Fundraiser At Atwood Hill Winery, Morning View, Kentucky for Daschle/Lincoln 2000, Jordan 2000 and Lucas 2000 (With Elanor Jordan and Ken Lucas)

September 3, 2000

Rally in Covington, Kentucky

I'm quite thankful to Senator Kerry for really getting back into this... He was a great rival during the primaries, and I'm thrilled to have him on my side... Given Jack Kemp's illness, I'm not surprised that he's not on the trail... but where is Senator McCain? You'd think he'd thrilled to support a like-minded rival...

Town Hall in Mount Vernon, Indiana

Town Hall in Brookport, Illinois

September 4, 2000

Town Hall in Bear Creek, Wisconsin

Rally in Rhinelander, Wisconsin (With Dave Obey)

It looks we've gotten a very early start to winter here... and Global Climate Change will conditions like this here... More Droughts and Wildfires in California, More powerful Hurricanes on the East Coast and in the Gulf Coast. But we can slow the push of these conditions, by burning fewer fossil fuels, and by searching for sources of clean energy.

Rally at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin (Also includes fifteen-lap race between Donnie Beechler, Eddie Cheever, Scott Sharp, Juan Pablo Montoya, Al Unser.Jr, Jimmy Vasser and Michael Andretti)

It's time we adopted energy-saving standards for vehicles that we wish to sell on the American Market! We don't need monstrosities like the Hummer, crowding our market, only getting roughly ten miles to the gallon... we don't need that. Our Department of Transportation's standards for vehicles, would be that any non-trucks would have to go for 20 miles to the gallon, and trucks would have to go for 16 miles to the gallon.

Town Hall in Gilett, Wisconsin

September 5

Town Hall in Pulaski, Wisconsin

Town Hall in Marion, Wisconsin

Town Hall in Clintonville, Wisconsin

Town Hall in Eland, Wisconsin

Town Hall in Chilton, Wisconsin

September 6, 2000

Town Hall in Saukville, Wisconsin

Rally in Fredonia, Wisconsin

As the unofficial home of Flag Day, Fredonia has been a leader in American Patriotism. In their honor, If elected President, I will push to have a true Fourth of July Celebration each year, so that America can celebrate their Patriotism like Fredonia does... I will push for Election Day to be a Federal Holiday, every year so that Americans can exercise their most precious right, the right to vote, without worries or distractions.

Town Hall in Winona, Minnesota

September 7

Town Hall in Rushford, Minnesota

Town Hall in Houston, Minnesota

Town Hall in Caledonia, Minnesota

Town Hall in McGregor, Iowa

Town Hall in Osage, Iowa

Daschle Ad #4

To Air until September 17 in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Oregon, Nevada and Iowa

Dan Quayle says he wants to shake up Congress

He wants to re-enact the policies and ideals of this man, Former Speaker Newt Gingrich

This is a man who orchestrated the impeachment trial of President Clinton... on evidence they weren't even supposed to be looking at.

Is this the kind of shaking up Dan Quayle means?

America Can't afford to find out, which is why on election day vote for the Democratic Candidates for President and Congress

I'm Tom Daschle and I approve this message.

Running in Pennsylvania and Michigan:

Manufacturing
Voiceover: There is a great threat to the lifeblood of American manufacturing. Taxes and regulations are mounting on job creators, forcing them to move over seas. Bill Clinton has pursued a dangerous mix of policies by putting pressure on manufacturers to leave AND signing legislation that helped them move jobs overseas. Pennsylvania/Michigan is threatened by this recklessness and opportunity is limited for our children. Let's vote for a brighter future. Vote Quayle in 2000.

(The point of that ad is to hurt Clinton on economic stewardship. A lot of independents liked Clinton
in 2000, and therefore the Democrats, because they were seen as strong on the economy. This line of attack should probably soften the Democrats' edge as a party.)

Running in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri, and Michigan.

Values

Voiceover: Here in -state-, people know the meaning of family values. They know that your family is the best safety net there is and we need to raise kids to have strong moral character. Dan Quayle is a strong supporter of those values. His many years of supporting the sanctity of life and marriage have proven that he is a proven fighter for the soundness of America's moral fiber. Dan Quayle will restore dignity and honor to the Oval Office

Running in California, New Mexico and Nevada, Spanish and English ad. Narrator is an immigrant from Mexico:

Family and Opportunity
Voiceover: When my family came to the United States when I was just a boy, my papa said that we were going to the great land of opportunity. We were going somewhere where my family could find good work and get ahead, my brothers and sisters and me could get a good education, and everyone works hard. We were going to America. Here I am, an adult, and I see that vision threatened. Manufacturers are closing shop. Small business is feeling pressure under a more overbearing government. And our elected officials don't respect family values. We need someone like Dan Quayle to restore dignity and strength to the land of opportunity. That's why he should be our next President.

Running in West Virginia and Kentucky:

Coal

Voiceover: Coal is a way of life in Kentucky/West Virginia. Grandaddy worked in the mines, daddy worked in the mines and it's fed families for generations. Coal miners pay taxes that keep the schools open and roads paved. But Tom Daschle and his radical environmentalist interest groups want to ruin the coal industry. Huge fees, taxes, and regulations threaten coal and our way of life. Vote for coal, vote for jobs, vote for Quayle.

Guns
Voiceover: Tom Daschle and liberal Democrats helped ram through a gun ban across the country. Corrupt Senators hammered out a backroom deal that gutted the 2nd Amendment. Tom Daschle is an enemy of your right to bear arms. Vote for freedom, vote for your rights, vote for Quayle.

Radio ad in urban areas of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan:

Trapped
Voiceover: It's a sad fact in America today. A lot of times, your success is determined by your ZIP code. Dan Quayle has a plan to give kids who are trapped in failing schools a chance to succeed. By supporting alternatives to failing inner city kids, the Quayle plan is going to help poor families have equal opportunity to get into private schools. The Quayle plan is going to lift black families out of poverty and support a brighter future for our children.

Running in Hispanic-dominant areas of Nevada, New Mexico, and California. Spanish ad:

Choice

Voiceover: Immigrants have come to this country for generations, seeking a better future for their kids. Education is critical to ensuring a successful life. Dan Quayle has a plan to ensure that every child, black, white, Hispanic, it doesn't matter, has access to high quality education. A vote for Dan Quayle is a vote for a bright future and a vote for better schools.

Trapped, Hispanics

Voiceover: Millions of Latino children are trapped in failing schools. Their success is limited by their ZIP code. It isn't their fault or their families fault that the schools are failing. That's why the Quayle plan for education provides every child, regardless of race or background, the equal opportunity to attend high quality private schools. A vote for Dan Quayle is a vote for a brighter future.

Radio ad running in swing-counties of Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania:

Flexibility
Voiceover: Tom Daschle opposed allowing states to run their own food stamps program. Rather than supporting flexibility for poor families, Tom Daschle supported a top-down federal government bureaucracy. Tom Daschle's vote kept governors from doing what is best for their people, and limits opportunity for those in poverty.

Infrastructure
Paid staffers looking for volunteers in urban Ohio, Pennsylvania.
-Target is to raise 100 minority volunteers in Pennsylvania.
-Target is to raise 150 minority volunteers in Ohio.

Four fundraising events attended by Mr. Rove himself.
Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace interview.

Buy robo-call machine.
Mailing reiterating school choice to 3/5 Voter Propensity African Americans in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Americans for Opportunity is muscling in on statewide races. It benefits presidential candidates to have strong down-ticket candidates.

Running in Florida:

Safety Net
Voiceover: Bill Nelson wants to stay the course and bankrupt social security. Rather than reduce benefits for the rich, Bill Nelson wants to destroy Social Security and throw seniors out in the streets. Bill McCollum has a plan to responsibly reform Social Security to make sure it is there for retirees to come.

Schedule for Blanche Lincoln...

September 1
Town Hall in Oak Hill,Florida

Town Hall in Edgewater, Florida

Rally in Ormond Beach, Florida (With Bill Nelson and Shirley Chisolm)

Ormond Beach, you were once the birthplace of speed, the birthplace of Auto Racing and the home of an American Hero, Shirley Chisolm... But Ormand Beach is more than that. You care about Social Security and Medicare. You don't want to see people messing with the retirement you've worked you're whole life to earn. You don't want to deal with people dashing your hopes and dreams and dreams... we get that

Town Hall in Holly Hill, Florida

Rally in Port Orange, Florida

I'm pretty sure Karl Rove and Americans for Opportunity don't know what they are talking about with regards, to Social Security... How exactly is putting the money in the highly volatile stock market any better for retirees than what we're proposing? What the Republicans want to do will cost seniors more money, especially in years when stocks aren't doing so hot..

September 2
Rally in Deltona, Florida

It's only been five years since you became a city, but you've already accomplished so much... As my running mate has said, both in advertising and in his behavior on the Senate floor... President Clinton's was reprehensible, but the standard for defining a high crime and misdemeanor is so vauge that impeachment was a reality, if unnecessary . Senator Daschle will push for a Constitutional Amendment that spells out what a high crime and misdemeanor means... so we can clear up legal peculiarities like these.

Town Hall in Wekiwa Springs, Florida

Town Hall in Longwood, Florida

Town Hall in Casselberry, Florida

Rally in Altamonte Springs, Florida

Americans for Progress is distorting reality yet again... Tom Daschle didn't vote against supporting flexiblity for poor families... If you gave the food stamp program to the states most of them would get rid of the program altogether! In fact I could name five states that probably would right now! Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, and my home State of Arkansas all probably would eliminate Food Stamps if they had the chance!

September 3

Town Hall in Siloam Springs, Arkansas

Town Hall in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas'

Town Hall in Goodman, Missouri (With Mel Carnahan)

Town Hall in Southwest City, Missouri

September 4

Town Hall in Pineville, Missouri

Town Hall in Sheridan, Missouri

Town Hall in Grant City, Missouri

Town Hall in Hartville, Missouri

Town Hall in Mountain Grove, Missouri

September 5

Town Hall in Houston, Missouri

Town Hall in Paris, Missouri

Town Hall in Vandalia, Missouri

Rally in Mexico, Missouri

Missouri, You've been a bellwether for the country for many elections now... as you go so does the White House. Now as we enter the twenty-first century, you find yourself with a difficult decision... Stay in the Reagan Era and it's gloomy militarized past, or head forward into a new tomorrow, with new ideas and a bright future ahead?

September 6

Rally in Spring Hill, Tennessee

Tom Daschle and I believe there's a difference between outright taking one's guns, which is what the second amendment refers to, and regulating the usage of guns, ammunition, and other paraphernalia. We believe the Second amendment allows  us to regulate the use of assault rifles and their magazines... We do not believe the second amendment allows us to ban such weapons.

Rally in Franklin, Tennesee

Bill Clinton was a philanderer, and I don't want him anywhere near me on the campaign trail, but since when has lying under oath become a "high crime and misdemeanor"? It's too vague and too easy to use for partisan purposes, to ever trust an impeachment proceeding

Town Hall in Ashland City, Tennessee

Town Hall in Carthage, Tennessee

Town Hall in Smithville, Tennessee

September 7

Town Hall in Trenton, Georgia

Town Hall in Chickamuga, Georgia

Town Hall in Ringgold, Georgia

Rally at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center, Dalton Georgia

Senator Quayle thinks he's already won this state, that he's won the South... well I see 1,679 of you who think otherwise, who think we're still viable here!

Town Hall in Chatsworth, Georgia

Running in Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and Oklahoma:

Tired
Voiceover: Hardworking Americans are tired of being called heartless. The Daschle campaign is at it again. They accused the citizens of -state- of wanting to end food stamps and not caring about the poor. Tell Tom Daschle that you're tired of working hard to feed your family only to be called heartless by tax-and-spend Washington DC liberals. Vote Quayle 2000.

Running in every state with a margin of 3 points or less:

Laboratories
Voiceover: State governments are the laboratories of innovation. Giving states the flexibility to run their own food stamps program with federal money is smart policy, and good for poor families. Tom Daschle voted to block giving states and families that flexibility. Republicans want to make life easier for the working class and we do that by giving states more freedoms to help their poor. That's a smart plan.

Anywhere Near Me
Blanche Lincoln: Bill Clinton was a philanderer, and I don't want him anywhere near me on the campaign trail...
*footage of Clinton's convention speech introducing Blanche Lincoln*
Voiceover: Blanche Lincoln is ready to condemn the President's...casual relationship....with the truth when it's politically beneficial. But the minute the Daschle-Lincoln ticket needs money or publicity, they rush to Bill Clinton's donors, they want him on stage at the convention. America doesn't need another White House ready to sell out its values. Vote Quayle 2000.

Can't Be Any Worse
*footage from Evansville, Indiana rally during primaries*
Daschle:It's time to recognize we don't live in a Cold War World anymore. While we don't know the intentions of Vladimir Putin, we do know he can't be any worse than the czars of old, or Josef Stalin.
Voiceover: Tom Daschle says he's ready to be commander-in-chief. We know anyone ready to threaten America's relationship with former Soviet nations by saying Putin (Daschle says:) "can't be any worse" isn't ready to be in the White House.

Running in Florida:

Market
Voiceover: The Republican plan allows seniors more flexibility in what they're going to do with their retirement. You can choose to invest a portion of your payroll tax, or stick with traditional Social Security. It's your choice, not the government's. That's the Republican Plan.

Strategy Email to Volunteers

Democrats are on defense. The Daschle campaign has sent their running mate on an explanation tour of places that appreciate family values. They're trying to have it both ways. They want to claim Clinton's record on the economy while turning around and disowning the White House on moral grounds. Those two things are incompatible. The more we drag them off message, the more time and money they spend trying to defend Clinton's record on ethics, the more we're going to see the South solidify and values voters in Pennsylvania and Ohio swing our direction.
The nature of Americans for Opportunity is that it is a campaign-like entity. Your efforts as
volunteers will help pull the Vice President over the top and lead the nation to renewed prosperity.

Email to the 250 minority volunteers recruited in Ohio and Pennsylvania

We've made a lot of progress touting the GOP's strength on family values and education. Let's take that to the inner cities and dull Daschle's numbers in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Cleveland. If we pull off a significant portion of the African American vote, there is no path to the White House for Tom Daschle. Neither Democratic candidate can speak to minority voters. Daschle, a South Dakotan backroom dealer and Blanche Lincoln, an Arkansan. General Powell is a great addition to the GOP ticket and I hope to see the Republican Party, with your help, make history in November.

Infrastructure:
-Paid canvassers are hitting 100 voters in inner cities in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania every
      other day.
     -Paid canvassers deployed into Arkansas.
-Outreach phone calls to faith leaders in swing states.

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(September 1st-September 7th) Sad

"Some people might point out that we lost the poll that asks who is more likeable. But I want to point out that we are trying to choose the next President of the United States, and this is not a popularity contest. Voters should choose the man who can lead. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I'm tested and you know where I stand. I don't deny that Senator Daschle has legislative talents, but remember that it was a Republican contest that helped Bill Clinton achieve things. The loyalty that President Clinton shows to Senator Daschle is touching, really, and surprising considering the man spent most of his primary race trying to be the Anti-Clinton. And now his solutions to this nation's woes are proposing bike lanes and trying to reduce West Virginia's coal mines. I'm sorry Senator, but don't you think that there are more important things?"

September 1st:
-Florida:
-Town Hall in Tallahassee, FL with Connie Mack III.
-Town Hall in Orlando, FL with Connie Mack III.
 -Rally in Miami, FL.
-Rally in Jacksonville, FL with Bob Martinez.
 -Rally in Tampa, FL.
-Meeting with representatives of Cuban Exiles in Miami, FL.

"You've been fighting for a long time, nobody has to tell you that. It has been a struggle of decades, of much suffering for those of you who fled Cuba. Senator Daschle may want to believe that times have changed, but I don't. What we should do is apply pressure on the Castro regime so we can finally see a free and democratic Cuba, but it looks like my opponent is willing to forget the plight of thousands of Cuban refugees who want to see their country free and stable. I want to stand with you and give you my support, as the Republican Party has always tried to do. It's not just foreign policy, my plan includes a reasonable reform of Social Security, Immigration and Education that seeks to make the life of the average American much better and much more stable. What is wrong with that?"

September 2nd:
-New Jersey:
-Bus Tour and Rally in Newark, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Jersey City, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Paterson, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Elizabeth, NJ.
-Town Hall in Edison, NJ with Christine Todd Whitman.
-Town Hall in Toms River, NJ with Christine Todd Whitman.

"Yes, I admit it, the grades ad does bother me to a certain degree. Senator Daschle, I admit it: I wasn't the brightest student in school, and I never got the highest grades. But I worked hard and I managed to overcome life's challenges, and here I stand. All people make mistakes, polls show 74% of Americans faced the prospect of getting an F. It's not the end of the world, and one of the wonderful things about our nation is that everybody has a chance to rise and be President. Perhaps some of you don't believe me, but it's true. General Powell faced a similar situation (although much more complicated) and yet he showed the world what he's capable of. That is one of the main reasons I chose him, for the Quayle/Powell team is a team of fighters that will never stop. But sure, go ahead, question my intelligence, bring back potatoe if you want. I want people to understand that this ticket will deliver good and efficient leadership, and that we will be able to deliver what Bill Clinton couldn't."

September 3rd:
-West Virginia:
 -Rally in Charleston, WV.
-Town Hall in Morgantown, WV with Gov. Cecil Underwood.
 -Rally in Parkersburg, WV.
-Town Hall in Fairmont, WV with Gov. Cecil Underwood.
 -Rally in Huntington, WV.
-Town Hall in Beckley, WV with Gov. Cecil Underwood.
-Meeting with miners in some of the state's coal mines.

"West Virginia is the perfect state for the Quayle Campaign, or at least a state that I know we can win. West Virginia is a reliably democratic state, a catholic state, a state with a strong mining tradition. If you go by the media's stereotipes, you might very well think that I'm not making sense, but I am. I want to see more values in America, I want to see a better economy in America, I want to see a more competetent and dignified government here in America. And you want the same. Are there political differences? I'm sure there are quite a few, but you know where I stand and you know my plans. Senator Daschle is going out there speaking of bike lanes as the big plan and speaking of coal regulations, all while implying that you don't understand what a War on Coal looks like. But you know very well what's best for your state, and I will never sacrifice jobs in West Virginia for the sake of pandering. I am not going to do that!"

September 4th:
-Ohio:
-Bus Tour and Rally in Kettering, OH with Gov. Bob Taft.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Elyria, OH with Gov. Bob Taft.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Springfield, OH with Gov. Bob Taft.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Hamilton with Gov. Bob Taft.
-Town Hall in Mentor, OH with Rep. John Kasich.
-Town Hall in Middletown, OH with Rep. John Kasich.
-Town Hall in Lakewood, OH with Rep. John Kasich.

"I am fighting in this race for all Americans, and I'm trying to appeal not only to Republicans, but to independents, moderates and conservative Democrats to join me. I'm tired of the old rhetoric of the moderate champion fighting against the evil Republican, I think that's and old and tired political joke that leads to nowhere. I understand the concerns of the people, and I spoke about this on the primaries: you can't expect economic growth to be everything. Some of you might believe that staying on track on economic issues while shifting to the left in social issues is the right way, but I disagree. We must consolidate and we must move forward at the same time, and I want to do that by making Social Security more efficient, by achieving Campaign Reform, by giving our children a better education and making sure that families are doing good. They crucified me for Murphy Brown, but they failed to understand what I meant. Studies show that families give the sense of stability that our children need, and if I can do something to make their lives better as President, you can trust me to do that."

September 5th:
-Ohio:
-Rally in Toledo, OH with Sen. Mike DeWine.
-Rally in Akron, OH with Sen. Mike DeWine.
-Rally in Dayton, OH with Sen. George Voinovich.
-Rally in Parma, OH with Sen. George Voinovich.
 -GOTV efforts across Columbus, OH.
 -Town Hall in Lima, OH.
 -Town Hall in Dublin, OH.

"Dignity and values matter. We need a President who knows what's wrong and what's right, a President who can make that difference by being honest. And you can trust me to be honest, I won't distort my record and I won't try to distract the voters from the real issues. Oh, there he goes again against Clinton, you say. But I feel this is important. It is an important issue for a dignified White House has more credibility, it has the necessary credibility on world standing. This administration botched Rhodesia and Haiti, and we failed to be clear in regards to Bosnia and Somalia. And now you see potential instability in the Middle East, a new Russian leader, a more aggressive China. We have to act and show the world that America has that commitment to stability and democracy, and that we won't act based on convenience. It's not easy to be in our position, but it is precisely because of that that we have to make the effort to lead. And as President I will lead, and I will collaborate with international organisms and fellow Heads of State to make the post-Cold War world a safer world."

September 6th:
-Pennsylvania:
-Town Hall in Scranton, PA with Tom Ridge.
-Town Hall in Levittown, PA with Tom Ridge.
-Town Hall in Harrisburg, PA with Tom Ridge.
-Town Hall in Lancaster, PA with Tom Ridge.
-GOTV and Voter Registration Efforts in Philadelphia, PA.

"One of the most crucial parts of Democracy is the participation of the citizens. And we as politicians have made a lot of mistakes, we have managed to turn off people who should be participating and voting to create the country they want, the country they wish for. And I apologize for contributing to that in the past, but right now I'm trying to excite people, to inspire them to vote again. What better place than Pennsylvania to do that? It's not going to be easy to win here, but it's possible, with your help. Young voters and minority voters usually vote Democrat, but I refuse to believe that they will always do so.  Our Education plan wants to ensure that we will have higher academic standards, our Social Security plan will make it more accessible and efficient and our Economic plan will try it's best to lower your taxes and ensure that families get to actually enjoy our economic growth."

September 7th:
-Pennsylvania:
-Barnstorm and Rally in Erie, PA with Rick Santorum.
-Barnstorm and Rally in Reading, PA with Rick Santorum.
-Barnstorm and Rally in Bethlehem, PA with Rick Santorum.

-GOTV and Voter Registration Efforts in Allentown, PA.
-GOTV and Voter Registration Efforts in Pittsburgh, PA.

"I saw Senator Daschle the other day, speaking about the loss of jobs in Ohio. Ohio it's not the only state, Pennsylvania has faced similar troubles lately, yet we say that out economic situation is amazing and great. Is that so? He says he can't give those jobs back, but a lot of the policies that Democrats have fought for are killing those jobs, and they are likely to kill more in the future. The bike line thing sounds interesting, I get it, but it's not a solution. Real solutions involve lowering taxes to the middle class, cutting unnecessary spending, making our government more efficient, those are real solutions to the real troubles of America. The other side may very well think that we're obstructionist, but all I'm hearing is solutions that will not even please an entire political party, much less both parties, and let's not even talk about independent Americans, who probably feel underrepresented now. We need a President who is not out of touch.

Dan Quayle Ad: "Confusion"Sad

Type: TV Ad.
To be played in: Maine, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico, West Virginia and California.

We see some pictures of Tom Daschle on the campaign trail.

Narrator: "Since he entered the Presidential race, Tom Daschle has led a very interesting campaign, full of colorful statements. But he seems to be confused on how to brand himself...

Daschle: "I will be a practical Progressive, not a strident bomb-thrower."

Daschle Ad: "Tom Daschle, a blend of Conservative and Liberal, a blend of Left and Right."

Narrator: "He enjoys the support of Bill Clinton and John Kerry, strong surrogates for his cause. But...

Daschle: "I am the candidate that will best represent the Clinton era!"

Daschle: "I believe that the the Lewinsky scandal is my strongest issue because it showed that Bill Clinton had a pattern of behavior, that makes it inappropriate for one to support him."

Daschle: "Senator Kerry's right he does bring change, but is it change we need? We need a strong stable hand to guide us, and that would be me."

Daschle:: "To be honest, there really isn't much that separates Senator Kerry and I. We're both Senators, we both have considerable Seniority and we both are relatively liberal... "

Daschle Ad:: "John Kerry is soft on Iran, soft on North Korea." "John Kerry supports open borders without consequence."

Narrator: "Confusing, isn't it? On November, vote for a candidate a little bit more consistent, vote for Vice-President Quayle.

Dan Quayle Ad: "Experience"Sad

Type: TV Ad.
To be played in: Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Minnesota.

We see some clips of Dan Quayle as Senator and Vice-President, and in the campaign trail.

Narrator: James Danforth Quayle, better known as Dan Quayle. You know him, he was a Representative, a United States Senator, and George Bush's Vice-President. With a long political career and noted efforts in the private sector, Dan Quayle is a tested man, more than ready and capable to be President.

We see a clip of Dan Quayle speaking at a rally.

Quayle: Experience and record matter. We need a President with experience, a President who knows how to work and get things done in the White House. I have executive experience, legislative experience and a lot of work in the private sector. I may not have the highest grades, and my proposals are not as catchy as bike lanes across America, but I'm ready to sept in and tackle this nation's problems. Will you help me?

Narrator: "On November, vote for a candidate who is tested and ready, vote for Vice-President Quayle.

Running in California:

Commander In Chief
Voiceover: There is only one team in this presidential election ready to serve in the White House. That team is Quayle-Powell. Between them, a wealth of leadership experience. Quayle-Powell is ready to keep this country safe, provide clear leadership, and bring strength of character to the Oval Office.

Never Run Anything
Voiceover: Tom Daschle has never been in charge of anything. Without any executive experience, Tom Daschle makes the claim that he is ready to be President of the United States. It is important that the next President be prepared to keep our country safe. Tom Daschle is not that President.

Spend the Surplus
Voiceover: The United States has its first budgetary surplus in a long time. Rather than being responsible, promoting economic growth, and securing our country's future Daschle wants to spend the surplus.....on bike lanes. While leaving kids trapped in failing schools, Daschle wants to spend billions of dollars on the construction of bike lanes. That's an irresponsible use of taxpayer money. Vote Quayle 2000.

"For eight years now we have been lied to. Now politics at times is like a game, but the presidency is more than that; it is this sacred part of our history. The president represents all of us and must bring out what is the best in all of us. He must appeal to our hopes, not bring out our fears. Honor does matter. Integrity matters. Those two things certainly mattered my career and most importantly matter in the White House. When I look at Dan I see a man of integrity. A man of vision. A man with honor who loves this country and why you might not always agree with him or like the policies he puts forward, you can trust him. I trust Dan and America can trust Dan."

September 8th-21st begins now (two weeks, I'm afraid this game will die before Election Day if we don't hurry up. I'll be busy in April, too)

__________________________________________________

-Quayle still leading, but Daschle keeping his base fired up. Is Daschle favored if the turnout is low on Election Day?

-Powell, too lazy to be VP? Too optimistic about GOP chances in blue states? Does he really want to be VP? Americans unsure.

-Is West Virginia gone for Daschle? West Virginians afraid "to regulate coal" means "war on coal", poll shows. On the other hand, Oregon voters like his stance on clean energy.

-Quayle winning the "advertising war", with the support of millionaire, generous donors.

-Will Bill Clinton keep campaigning for Daschle after Lincoln words on campaign trail? "Bill Clinton was a philanderer, and I don't want him anywhere near me on the campaign trail". Arkansas voters now have an unfavorable opinion of their Senators, as do a huge majority of Americans. Should Daschle start thinking about changing his running-mate? She seems toxic for his campaign eight now... can she change that?

Dan Quayle says that his campaign is going all out to win, blasts the Daschle/Lincoln Team:

"Well, I think this is a very good moment for our campaign. I have been leading since February, and while it's not easy to keep that lead, we have managed to convince a majority of Americans that we are indeed the best choice to lead America into the next century. (Pause) Although I think I should credit Senators Daschle and Lincoln for their help... (Quayle and the reporters laugh) But not, I mean, can you believe the disunity that you see in the Democratic Party today? Senator Daschle says that supporting Clinton is inappropriate, then backs him, and now Senator Lincoln called the President a philandered and managed to sink her approval ratings. I'm going to the Upper South this week, ladies and gentlemen. Many voters down there feel disappointed and they want to have a second look at the candidates, and I will be happy to travel across those states and make my case for an inclusive and conservative comeback in America. I still haven't decided where to go after that, but I have already quite a few ideas.

That said, I am worried about the other ticket. I think the American people need to know how Senator Daschle truly stands on the Bill Clinton issue, and I think he has to say it out loud, because the voters are losing confidence. And not only confidence, they are questioning his judgement and his real ability to lead. They say Colin Powell is not energetic enough, but who can doubt that he would be an outstanding Vice-President or President? Senator Lincoln may very well be enthusiastic on the campaign trail, but when you see things like this... Look, one of the reasons why I'm running for President is to restore dignity and integrity to the White House, and you can't say that I have held back on my beliefs or gone back on my statements during this race. I don't like the idea of changing your beliefs, which is why my campaign drafted the Confusion ad, which I believe was quite effective. I hope Senator Daschle doesn't pull a Clinton on us!

My campaign still has to address a few situations, but I fully trust the judgement of the people of this country, and I believe that we will in November with our message and our new style of leadership for America. We are going all out from now on, and my staff is ready to unleash the full potential of the Quayle campaign across the states, using all the assets we managed to build and create during the February-August months. But the details can come later, I have an event to go now. Well, that's all I have to say, see you in the campaign trail, guys!"

Media Strategy

Karl Rove on O'Reilly. More interviews to come.

Rove Interview with O'Reilly

O'Reilly: Karl, great to have you on. You're showing courage that, apparently, no one in the Daschle campaign has. It's true folks! They're not coming on! So Rove, you read the Post. What're you thinking?

Rove: Well, Bill, you've seen a couple things things week. First, you've seen Clinton turn toxic because- *interrupted*

O'Reilly: Of course he has. He's always been toxic. The folks don't trust any adulterer!

Rove: Exactly, Bill. So the Daschle campaign's flimsy strategy of buddying up to the White House on economics and keeping the President's shady personal integrity at arm's length have failed entirely. That's part of why you've Lincoln's favorability go upside down.

O'Reilly: Yeah the whole philanderer comment was kind of...you know...it was weak. It made Blanche Lincoln look like a politician. What were they thinking with that one?

Rove: They wanted to put the integrity question to bed. Blanche Lincoln is on the ticket to be the not-politician, she was once seem as charming, likable, and a good Southerner. By making her play politics and attack the President on integrity, she hurt hers. We saw the real Blanche Lincoln recently.

O'Reilly: You know, Rove, you can really see that Daschle's been in DC a longtime when he doesn't understand that people don't like him buddying up to a guy who cheats on his wife. Okay, anyway, the Post talked a little bit about the idea that General Powell, Quayle's running mate, isn't up to being Vice President. What do you have to say about that?

Rove: That's just nonsense, Bill. He's been an OUTSTANDING citizen, serving his country faithfully and gaining a wealth of experience doing it. I think that it is offensive for the Daschle Campaign to suggest.

O'Reilly: Alright, thanks for coming on, Karl. Karl Rove, the executive director of Americans For Opportunity, everybody. They're doing a lot of good work to bring values and solutions for you, the folks, to Washington. You can find them at *contact information.*

Press Release

Mr. Rove recently met with Charles and David Koch, wealthy conservative donors. They have now backed the Americans for Opportunity group. Mr. Rove says, "We are looking forward to working with the Koch's as we seek to bring conservative values to the White House."

Round 1 of Ads
First set in a series of ads to ran over the turn. Designed to continue going after the Daschle campaign. Running in states where margin is less than 2 points. Cozy Up and Mud are targeted to hit on the likability issue.

Cozy Up
Voiceover of mid-thirties sounding woman: I heard people on the news saying that Tom Daschle is more likable than Dan Quayle. I just can't believe that. People really think that someone who sells out his values and cozies up to a man who betrayed his wife, his daughter, and his country is more likable than a man with strong convictions and values? I don't think there is anything likable about Daschle's campaign.

Mud
Voiceover: Tom Daschle says he's more likable than Dan Quayle. Then, he turns around and pick Blanche Lincoln to be his running mate. Bill Clinton, the guy in the White House that betrayed his family, nominated Lincoln to be Daschle's running mate. Now, Blanche Lincoln is playing politics with her values. She loves him when he's popular and hate's him when he's not.

Bikes!
Middle-aged woman: I am a single mother and I lost my job. What will Senator Daschle do to help me feed my son?
*Clip of Daschle saying "Bike lanes"*
Elderly woman: Social security is facing tough times and my choices are limited. What is Tom Daschle doing if he's not reforming Social Security?
*Clip of Daschle saying "Bike lanes"*
Mid-30's Hispanic lady with Spanish accent: My daughter is trapped in a failing school. Her success has been determined by where we live. What will Tom Daschle do to fix America's failing schools and make opportunities available for minorities?
*Clip of Daschle saying "Bike lanes"*

Overseas
Voiceover: Tom Daschle doesn't understand economics. He voted for NAFTA...AND he wants to raise taxes on job creators. This just doesn't make sense. Daschle want to make it easier for countries to move overseas AND punishing them for staying in America. He might as well ask manufacturing workers to buy their moving ticket. A vote for Tom Daschle is a vote to ship America's industry out of our country.

Strategic Email to Volunteers
My friends,
Polling this week shows we've got them on the ropes. Lincoln has turned toxic and Daschle's getting weaker. With Lincoln's favorability in the tank, Daschle can practically kiss the South goodbye. He won't be competitive Arkansas. Period. 58% of West Virginians think Daschle wants a war on coal. He's done.
We need to continue pushing our message on education to non-traditional GOP voters. The Daschle campaign trying to paint the Vice President as un-intellectual has been demonstrated as a poor political move and as a moot point. Daschle obviously has no understanding of economics if he supports both free trade and a more regulated domestic economy. The Rust Belt needs to understand that.
The most basic and narrow path to victory that I, personally, see is keeping every current Quayle state, winning Ohio and Pennsylvania, and one other swing state that isn't Nevada. We'll need your help. Keep fighting for opportunity, keep fighting for Quayle.

                                                             -Karl

Campaign Schedule for Blanche Lincoln

September 8
Rally at the Frankfort Convention Center,Frankfort, Kentucky

What you should take away from last week isn't that Bill Clinton is a philanderer... we've known that since since at least 1992. What you should take away is that the system of impeachment is broken, easy to abuse for partisan purposes... The remedy is to amend the constitution to define high crimes and misdemeanors... because right now, the only situation you can reliably be impeached and convicted for is treason... at the same time we don't need another Clinton debacle, where impeachment talk dominated all eight years in office, or if we go back further, an Andrew Johnson fiasco, where he was impeached and nearly convicted over political differences within his own party.

Rally in Fairfield, Alabama

Dan Quayle thinks we're confused, well, he doesn't see the inner machinations of our campaign, we're as cool as cucumbers.

Town Hall in North Johns, Alabama

September 9
Town Hall in Helena, Alabama

Fundraiser at Morgan Creek Vineyards, in Harpersville Alabama, for Daschle/Lincoln 2000/Zell Miller 2000, Bill Nelson 2000, Robb 2000, and Marsha Folsom 2000 (With Marsha Folsom, Zell Miller) (Also appearing is Bobby Flay, and Mario Batali)

Town Hall in Vincent, Alabama

Rally at Talledega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama (Includes five lap race between Jeff Gordon,Stephen Park, Bill Elliot, Chad Little, Robert Pressley, Jeff Green, Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin)

It's quite a shame the secret service won't let me drive one of these stock cars... Like a stock car, the American economy has the capability of going 200 mph, but it is being held back, by Republicans in Congress and the plutocratic allies... do you really think Dan Quayle will be an independent voice if/when he gets to the White House? No, he'll be subservient, to people like Michael Miliken. That won't help our economy.

September 9
Rally in Mansfield Ohio

Ohio, all these job losses have to have you feeling blue... But we will help you, transition to the economy of the 21st Century.

Town Hall in Plymouth, Ohio

Town Hall in Milan, Ohio

Rally in Vermillion, Ohio(With Dennis Kucinich and Sherrod Brown)

Senator Quayle, your parties policies are just as responsible for the losses in jobs in the rust belt! Your party pushes deregulation, leaving companies open to getting sued when something goes wrong, we don't. Your party pushes for unrestricted trade compacts, we've learned our  lesson since NAFTA, and will not negotiate new free trade deals. We will even submit a repeal of NAFTA to Congress if we think that will help!

Rally in Sandusky, Ohio (with Linda Tripp, Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones)
The four of us may not like Bill Clinton... Some of us don't even like Tom Daschle. But we can agree on is that Daschle would be a superior President to Dan Quayle, we think Bill Clinton for all his faults, warts and skills in the bedroom, did an admirable job, when he was doing it.

September 10

Town Hall/GOTV in Bay View, Ohio

Town Hall in Bellevue, Ohio

Town Hall in Fostoria, Ohio

Town Hall in Rossford, Ohio

Town Hall in Antwerp, Ohio

Town Hall in Grover Hill, Ohio

September 11

Town Hall in Scott, Ohio

Town Hall in Van Wert, Ohio

Town Hall in Delphos, Ohio

Rally in Lima, Ohio
I know, I Know, my approval rating's in the tubes... Now, I feel I need to respond to an ad that's airing now... I wasn't Bill Clinton's choice... Bill wanted Governor Locke or Rep. Gephardt... If anything I was Hillary's favorite... although it didn't hurt that Gore liked me as well.

September 12

Rally in Sylvania, Ohio

Ohio has the potential to be one of the closest states in the nation this year... Now if you've watching, you'd know that Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly on Friday accused us of suggesting Colin Powell wasn't up to being Vice-President. That wasn't our campaign, that was the Washington Post's editorial board, and if I feel I'm up to being Vice-President, than Colin Powell most definitely is up to the task.

Rally in Southfield, Michigan

The Detroit Metropolitan Area has been in decline for years. And while none of us want to do it, either the State of Michigan or the Federal Government, needs to act to make Detroit attractive to people, and business. If it means bailing out the American Automakers, that's great, if it means bailing out the city, fine... whatever it takes.

Rally at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills Michigan (Jurassic 5, My Morning Jacket, Toni Braxton, Cyndi Lauper and the Sex Pistols performing)
Michigan, I can see your true colors, beautiful as rainbow (thank you Cyndi Lauper for your inspiration earlier this evening). You have some mighty fine stories to tell, and one stood out. The story of a team who dominated all the way because of great teamwork, great leadership, and excellent coordination. We're speaking of the 1984 World Series Champion Tigers, and some might say that they are also a symbol for the Decline of Detroit with police cars burning, and other vehicles burning... But the Euphoria that happens when you win a sports championship is unstoppable and unpredictable. I imagine there's a possibility of me doing the same thing in Little Rock if the Arkansas Razorbacks were named College Football National Champions.

September 13

Town Hall in Fremont, Michigan

Town Hall in White Cloud, Michigan

Town Hall in Hart, Michigan

Town Hall in Rothbury, Michigan

Town Hall in Shelby, Michigan (Oceana County)

Town Hall in Montauge, Michigan

September 14

Rally in Muskegon, Michigan
Michigan, your voice is being heard! You want solutions to problems that will take more than one administration to solve, that took the efforts of Bill Clinton, Al Gore and the entire White House for eight years. I can't promise we'll do any better, as these are baked in problems we are dealing with, but I can promise we'll make every effort to keep the hard work going, and not let our personal indiscretions become a sideshow.

Rally in Urbandale, Iowa
We're behind here, and we need a Kurt Warner-like miracle to win this state... but there's reason to suggest we can't do it, no reason to believe we can't snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Town Hall in Bagley, Iowa

Town Hall in Coon Rapids, Iowa

Town Hall in Bayard, Iowa

Town Hall in Cooper, Iowa

September 17

Town Hall in Minburn, Iowa

Rally in Ankeny, Iowa
Senator Quayle's been running a good race, but all good things must come to an end at some point, we all know he can't keep his particularly likability forever..

Town Hall in Madrid, Iowa

Town Hall in Slater, Iowa

Town Hall in Nevada, Iowa

Town Hall in Story City, Iowa

September 18,

Town Hall in Baxter, Iowa

Town Hall in Prairie City, Iowa

Running in states with less than 2% percent margin

Bringing Him Up
Lincoln: Bill Clinton was a philanderer, and I don't want him anywhere near me.
Lincoln: What you should take away from last week isn't that Bill Clinton is a philanderer.
*Clip of Clinton Nomination Speech*
Lincoln: I wasn't Bill Clinton's choice.
Lincoln: The four of us may not like Bill Clinton.
Lincoln: You want solutions to problems that will take more than one administration to solve, that took the efforts of Bill Clinton
Lincoln: The system of impeachment is broken.
Lincoln: We don't need another Clinton debacle.
Lincoln: Bill Clinton was a philanderer, and I don't want him anywhere near me.
Ominous Text On Screen: How does Blanche Lincoln really feel?

Rust
Lincoln: We've learned our lesson since NAFTA.
Lincoln: Detroit Metropolitan Area has been in decline for years.
Voiceover: President Clinton's philandering has shaken trust in the White House. American manufacturing is in decline. People are losing jobs. But what does Tom Daschle's running mate Blanche Lincoln have to say about it?
Lincoln: I can't promise we'll do any better.
Text On Screen: Dashle-Lincoln can't do much better. But America can. Vote Quayle 2000.

Chairman Haley Barbour on Fox News Sunday

Chris Wallace: It's great to have you back on the show, Mr. Barbour.
Barbour: Oh it's great to be here, Chris. You know, I've always said that Fox News Sunday has the best Green Room Scotch in television news. Cheesy

Wallace: Hahaha! That's great to hear! So, Haley, there has been drama recently on the campaign trail about the organization you chair, Americans for Opportunity. Coming right out of the mouth of Senator Daschle's running mate, Blanche Lincoln. She named your colleague Karl Rove on the stump regarding an interview he did on this network. Thoughts?

Barbour: Well, you know, this has a been a very difficult time for Senator Lincoln. I've taken to calling her "the shovel" because she somehow manages to just keep digging, and digging herself into a hole. Now, Ronald Reagan won 49 states. And I doubt Walter Mondale had a 24 point approval gap. I have never, in my time in politics, seen a candidate be so disliked and still considered competitive.

Wallace: Well, Senator Daschle is the top of the ticket. How do you think this affects him?

Barbour: Now, Chris, I know it is both of our jobs to explore the political repercussions of the veep nominee. Where do they boost the ticket, what constituencies do they reach out to. But it is the most important thing to remember that the veep nominee may have to serve as Vice President. That means Tom Daschle trusts this woman to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. The most powerful person in the world. This creates a serious and grave concern about his judgement.

Wallace: So you believe that Lincoln's choice to be Vice President shows weakness in Tom Daschle's ability to be President?

Barbour: Absolutely. Lincoln was a completely political pick. She was picked to bring women who Clinton scared off back to the Democratic camp and she was meant to turn the south purple. Tom Daschle nominated her to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency for purely political reasons.

Wallace: Wow, that's a pretty astounding accusation, Haley.

Barbour: I wanna tell you, and the American people to check the facts. 2 years as a Senator in a state that doesn't like you doesn't qualify you to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Wallace: I'm sorry, Haley, but I'm gonna have to break. We look forward to having you back on soon.

Barbour: Chris, it really was my pleasure. I'll meet you in the Green Room after the show. Hahahaha!

Running in states with a 3 point or less margin.

Judgement
*Clips from the anti-Lincoln ads*
Voiceover: Someday, a running mate may have to serve as Vice President. Tom Daschle chose this woman, Blanche Lincoln. She is a first-term Senator from Arkansas, and a majority of voters disapprove of her. Tom Daschle thinks someone who is ready to compromise their values, vote against jobs, and play politics with integrity is ready to be President, should the worst happen. Tell Tom Daschle that his judgement is wrong. Lincoln is ready for the White House. And America's not ready for Tom Daschle. Vote Quayle 2000.

Circus Cabinet
Voiceover: When a President is elected, he picks his Cabinet, a team of officials responsible for running the country. Tom Daschle chose Blanche Lincoln to be his Vice President, a pick that has turned out to be a disaster. So, we're asking. What will Tom Daschle's cabinet look like? Does he have the judgement necessary to pick a team for a new American Millenium? With a pick like Blanche Lincoln, that's for the voters to decide.

Quayle 2000: (Update)

After a great week for Vice-President Quayle, and with the Lincoln debacle getting bigger and bigger on the media, it's not surprising to see the Republican machine ready to flex muscles and movilize across the nation to beat Tom Daschle and the Democrats. Up in the polls and with the help of the entire party, Quayle is ready to fire up the base and win the battle for turnout. And, today, National Campaign Chair Kyle McSlarrow went to national TV and explained some of the motivations behind Quayle's efforts to win:

"I feel confident right now. We were seriously worried about Blanche Lincoln, given that she could seriously hurt our chances in the South. But when you see her appearing onstage with Monica Lewisnky and Paula Jones... well, like I said, we fell confident about our chances. The Republican Governors and Senators are out there on the trail, this week John McCain will be apprearing as well. You have guys like Haley Barbour and Karl Rove, who are making the extra effort to help our campaign and that have done a truly marvelous job. Some critice General Powell for a supposed lack of enthusiasm, but he is excelent on the trail, the best VP you could have. And this really makes a contrast with a Democratic Party that is divided, that jumps from supporting the President to attacking him at the next day. Vice-President Quayle has his flaws, but he has proved that he can be the President, that he is ready to be the President, and that we are all behind him to make him the next President."

That said, spokespersons David Beckwith and Craig Whitney took the time to stage a press conference in Phoenix releasing more details about the Quayle strategy and it's results. Beckwith pointed out that the number of swing states is increasing more and more, and that Quayle is making advances into New England and the Pacific Coast, something unthinkable in a month as recent as January. Whitney stressed the grassroot support, and that without the help of so many conservative activists and volunteers the campaign wouldn't be in such a good shape. Fundraising could go better, but the financial backers don't have many issues with Quayle, so they are providing the neccesary financial support. Same goes for the Governor's logistical support, which was decisive to the campaign's efforts.

The Quayle Website, updated every day to keep on with the news cycle.

In a world defined by the media, the Quayle campaign has tried to combined many savvyness with a touch of the old politics, and the combination seems very efficient, even if Tom Daschle could still deliver very strong punches to destroy Quayle's lead. The campaign has also chosen to play to the center with an issue that has not been touched so far: immigration. While Vice-President Quayle's views on immigration were not discussed back in the primary, the Vice-President insist that the Republican Party needs a reasonable approach to this issue, and the plan involves measures such as immediate legal residency, more border security, start paying back taxes, learn English, and explore a legal path to citizenship by the end of the first Quayle term.

Running in New Mexico, California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona:

Fix It
Voiceover: Vice President Quayle recently laid out a responsible vision for our broken immigration system. Quayle wants to strengthen the border, grant legal residence to those who have built lives here in the United States, and help immigrants assimilate into the United States better. It's a responsible vision that keeps families together, let's immigrants become part of our society, and strengthens the American Dream.

Press Release

The Silicon Valley Leadership Group has announced their support of Americans for Opportunity. Knowing the valuable contributions immigrants make to the American economy, tech entrepreneurs are ready to back the pro-growth, pro-immigration reform candidacy of Dan Quayle.
