Colin Powell Presidential Campaign: November 1- November 6

Powell Campaigns in New Hampshire
"...The Republican Party of 2000 will be a united one. A party that does not contort itself into a political pretzel, but one that is open and inviting. One that is compassionate and resolute. A party that a great man once called of bold colors. We must be bold, we must offer ourselves to the electorate a party that not only stands on our economic principles, but stands for leadership.

I do not despise President Clinton, he is after all my President and I respect the office of the President of the United State. However, I disagree with the conduct we've seen. The American President should embody the best of his countrymen, not the worst. To live up to their ideals and to appeal to their hopes. The American President is representative of all of us. Of we the people, of these United States. The President should reflect the values of America, the aspirations of America. Integrity matters. Dignity matters. Honor matters. Leadership matters..."

Powell on Experience
"Experience does matter. We're talking about the Presidency of the United States here, not governor or senator or congressman. We don't want on the job training and I would say of all the candidates in this race I have by far the most experience of any, save for perhaps Former Vice President Quayle."

Colin Powell Economic Plan: Prosperity for the 21st Century
1. Tax Cuts for All Americans
2. Lowering Corporate Tax Rate: 35% - 25%

3. Closing all Tax Loopholes
4. Allocating portions of the surplus towards entitlement reform

Powell Ad: The Dream (Running in Iowa/New Hampshire/South Carolina
"...this is a remarkable country we live in. That a guy like me who wasn't born into riches, who didn't have a powerful family name, was a C student in college could work his way up the ladder and become a four-star general in the United States Army...

"...I say that it is remarkable, because indeed it is, to people in other countries they say wow. How could this man do it? How could he achieve his dreams, and in reality to us it's not that remarkable, because this is America, where so long as you work hard and you stay true to yourself and you have the passion to dream you can go from being a kid born in Harlem, to being President of the United States...

"That's the American Dream and my goal as President is to ensure that every kid has the ability to achieve and follow their own God given potential."

Excerpt from Time Interview
Time: Are you a conservative Republican, are you a moderate Republican? How do you see yourself?

Powell: I'm a Republican, plain and simple. I think that's the mistake our party has been making the last few cycle. That somehow if you don't line up one hundred percent a certain way on issues than your not a true Republican. Look I'm a Republican. I stand for the three pillars that make up the party. Lowering taxes. Smaller government in people's lives and more personal rights and liberties. Those principles unite all Republican, whether your moderate or conservative. That's what we stand for and I believe in those ideas.

Powell Speaking in New Hampshire

Powell Ad: Trust (Running in IA/NH/SC)

"Successful leaders have a relationship of trust with the people. I look at Ronald Reagan. People may not have agreed with him on one issue or another, but they trusted him to do the right thing for America. If the people have trust, then any leader will succeed. Once the bond is broken with the people, regardless if great things happen that leader loses all credibility. People have to believe in you and in turn you as the leader have to believe in them."

Colin Powell: Restoring Trust

Former NH Governor Thomson Endorses Powell
"I proudly endorses Colin Powell for President because I know he'll go down to Washington and fix this country... I'm know for saying Ax the Tax here in New Hampshire and I know that Colin believe that sentiment as well, because the last thing we need in Washington is another tax and spender!"

Former Pres. Ford Endorses Powell for President
"We need to win again and I am backing the candidate who can win and that is Colin Powell."

Thank you Herman.
Experience matters, I have said that throughout my campaign and will continue to make that case. I am running for President of the United States and this job does not lend itself to on the job training. I look at Dwight Eisenhower, my hero and favorite President. He and I come from similar backgrounds. I never been in politics, I'm not a career politicians. For me the reason I'm running is to serve my country and I believe through my service in the military and the ideas that I have put forward, makes me uniquely qualified to be the next President of the United States.

Ronald Reagan was a man who inspired this nation and allowed it to be morning in America again. I want to champion that feeling again. To lift our eyes to a better and brighter future that exists out there on the horizon, waiting for us...

This country has done so much for me and allowed me to be where I am and I'm in this race to give back to the greatest country on earth and to see that every child alive now and yet to be born has the same opportunities that this country has given me."

"I think it's very flattering, I guess at this point that Senator Daschle is attacking me, the problem is Senator Daschle's politics and positions are too partisan. I don't care whether anyone is liberal or conservative, but to lead America and to be President of the United States, you must have strong convictions, but as President you must be above petty partisan politics and represent every and all Americans and that is what I intend to do with you help and as President if you'll have me."

Debate Responses: Colin Powell

Quite simply give the money back to the people. It is there money and frankly the American people know better how to spend and use their money then the federal government, which is why I am proposing an across the board tax cut for every American in all income brackets. In this time of good feeling and economic prosperity all citizens of this country should be able to experience and be apart of it.

The mission in Kosovo was not properly handled and I would not have authorized it if I were President. Building on that, I think we need to look at the change world we live in. The Soviet Union is no more. The Cold War is won, Europe is reunited. This is a time of great optimism, but we must also be vigilant. So America should not shrink from the world stage, but we should not see ourselves or operate as the world's policy matter. Let us intervene in foreign affairs when it is pertinent to American interests.

Well, I think we've been very specific in our speeches, talking about our plans to reform education and our economic package. I want to reform social security and medicare. I want to tackle the issue of health care in this country and to do it in a way that isn't a retread of the one Bill Clinton tried in his first term. However, more importantly the basis of my campaign is leadership and integrity and restoring those two key components to the White House, which I think everyone on this stage has been missing these last few years. Again, I respect President Clinton, but when I look at him I say that's not how a President of the United States of America should act, in any circumstances.

Powell Ad: Trust You (Running in IA/NH/SC/FL/MI/NV/CO/AZ)

[i"]The fruits of the budget surplus should not go to feeding the belly of government, but instead back to you, the people. Which I why I am proposing an across the board tax cut for every American, so that you too can enjoy the prosperity of these good times. After all it is your money and the last thing we need to do is continue to grow government.

Colin Powell Ad: The Plan (Airing in IA/NH/SC/FL)

"I have plan for our economy. One cut taxes middle income and low income families. Two use the surplus money to help reform social security and preserve it for future Americans. Three tackle the problem of education so that our children can compete with students internationally."

"I'm optimistic about our nation's future and believe that we can meet the challenges that lie and enjoy the rewards of our efforts."
