I'll do ten each for popular music and classical composers, since it's hard to compare the two.  Though it's worth noting that a rather large portion of my favorite pop musicians have connections to the classical world and write "serious" music on the side (or, in the case of David Byrne, do other non-music art things)- and no, I am not counting McCartney's dilletantish scribblings in that vein.

1. Paul Simon (including Simon & Garfunkel)
2. Sufjan Stevens
3. Spoon
4. Elvis Costello
5. The Beatles (yeah, yeah, yeah, I know)
6. Gabriel Kahane (token super-obscure choice)
7. The Flaming Lips
8. Radiohead
9. The National
10. Talking Heads

1. Bela Bartok
2. John Adams
3. Igor Stravinsky
4. Johannes Brahms
5. Dmitri Shostakovich
6. Maurice Ravel
7. Olivier Messaien
8. Steve Reich
9. J. S. Bach
10. Sergei Prokofiev

Sonic Youth
Nirvana
Guy Clark
Ray Wylie Hubbard
Peter Tosh
Townes Van Zandt
Aeronauten
Bob Dylan
Laura Marling
Nick Cave

This gets harder and much more random / mood-and-recent-listening-dependent after the first five. (Marling is on as I write this.)

Rough favorites, or at least the groundwork for a majority of the things I listen to:

Motörhead
Hawkwind
Judas Priest
The Ventures
Discharge
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple (/Rainbow/Captain Beyond/Gillan Tongue)
Phil Ochs
Del Shannon
Genesis (PG era, glad to see these fellas getting a warm reception)

Favorite musician is without a doubt Lemmy Kilmister for his unrivaled gruffness, surprising versatility and coincidental involvement in styles and scenes I very much appreciate, from beat to psychedelic rock to progressive rock and finally heavy metal. For the leader of a band known for simplicity and formulaic creation he's played on some rather out there kind of stuff.

A few of these cycle in and out. But after #1, in no particular order:

Foo Fighters
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
Stone Temple Pilots
Incubus
Def Leppard
Led Zeppelin
Van Halen
Alice In Chains
The Killers

I have pretty diverse taste in music, other than my dislike of country and rap.

Oh man, this is tough, but I'll try (in no particular order):

The Beatles
The Who
The Beach Boys
Simon & Garfunkel
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons
Pat Benatar
Huey Lewis & the News
Connie Francis
The Eagles

Honorable Mention: Neil Sedaka

This would probably be a good guess, although I really don't have favorites (there are so many good musicians, it's hard to choose just one.)
Rough favorites, or at least the groundwork for a majority of the things I listen to:

Del Shannon

Yeah!  A great Michigander (and early 60s musician).  High five!

First the obvious ones for a St. Pauli fan:
  Blur
  Kaiser Chiefs
Die Ärzte (check out the referee in the linked video above)

and while we're at St. Pauli, of course also
  The Beatles

The more recent stuff:
  Foo fighters
  Kraftklub

From the seventies / eighties:
  Cure
  Replacements
  Gil Scott-Heron (RIP)

and finally
  Miles Davis

Ten is a difficult number - I could add  at least another ten that are in a similar league.
