Agreed.  Ten is difficult.

One is good.  Like, my favorite musician is Bob Marley.

A million is good too, because I could probably name a whole bunch of musicians that I like.  (If I count CDs, rush and the Cure come in at 8 each, while Van Halen, REM, the Rolling Stones, Mozart, KISS, and Luciano Pavarotti have five each.  Embarrassingly, so does Pearl Jam.)   But I also have many favorites whose CDs I've never bought, like Van Morrison, Louis Armstrong, Serge Gainsbourg, Andrea Bocelli, Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, some benedictine monks, a Peruvian flute band that I saw nightly during the week I spent in Lima, and a bunch of long-dead composers from places like Italy, Austria, and Russia.

Some changes made. I got really into Irish music for a while, and have been really listening to a lot of blues lately. Among some of the newer stuff I have been listening includes Odetta, Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, Lou Reed, Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix, and Cat Stevens.

Also, Gates of Eden has been my favorite song for like six months now.

10. Otis Redding (Try A Little Tenderness, These Arms of Mine, Ciggarettes and Coffee)
9. Arlo Guthrie (City of New Orleans, Garden Song),
8. George Harrison (All Things Must Pass, My Sweet Lord)
7. Johnny Cash (Twenty Five Minutes to Go, Jackson)
6. Jimi Hendrix (Little Wing, Angel, My Friend)
5. The Dubliners (Whiskey in the Jar)
4. The Jerry Garcia Band (Russian Lullaby)
3. Grateful Dead (Black Peter, St. Stephen, Dark Star)
2. The Band (The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Rag Mama Rag, Ophelia)
1. Bob Dylan (Gates of Eden, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands)

It's hard to make a list because it feels wrong to ask myself, do I like Lucinda Williams better than KRS-ONE?  They're so different that I feels unfair to make the comparison.  I generally like music grounded in a time and with an individual creative voice, along with strong lyrical style and poetry.  So, I guess I'll divide my list in two a few musical traditions.

New Wave:
Elvis Costello
Talking Heads
Joe Jackson

Country/Folk:
Woody Guthrie
Bob Dylan
Lyle Lovett

R&B/Hip-Hop:
Stevie Wonder
Rakim/Eric B
ATCQ
Beastie Boys

I never knew there were liberals that liked country music.

Haha. On a related note, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks are Democrats.

My favorite 10 singers and bands are an ecletic bunch:

1. MercyMe
2. Carrie Underwood
3. The Fray
4. The News Boys
5. Hillsong United
6. Kelly Clarkson
7. Josh Groban
8. Leona Lewis
9. Adele
10. Taylor Swift
