I hate all parties. I guess if it were a relative’s (like my two year old cousin) party, I might drop off a present and stay for a while.

I enjoyed and attended kiddie parties when I was a child. Now that I am an adult male with no children, I do not attend them.

There's a distinction between parties for very young children and those for school aged kids. The first are much more adult oriented, as babies and toddlers don't know what's going on anyway.

From the subject line I thought you might be talking about the Libertarians and/or the Pirates.

Nonsense. They understand that there is cake.

Members of either party should not be invited to children's parties...

Ah, but I grew up in a farming valley, remember. We were the comparatively poor kids who got invited along to make up the numbers Grin

Attended my first kiddie party of my adult life last Saturday to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday.

It is heartwarming to see your kin enjoy a birthday.

Unbearable if you're a single, 26 year old who still thirsts for the all the "bad" the world has to offer.  I'd imagine my own kids' birthdays will be nice, but don't expect me to be dressing up as a clown or anything.

Once the kid is about 5 or 6, don't they just want a party with their own friends, without any adults getting in the way, except to chaperone and serve them cake?  Just how old are the kids at these kiddie parties that Bushie goes to?

This is definitely true. And most parents of the invited, by this point, have been desperately looking forward to an afternoon of peace and quiet. For most, the novelty of parenthood, which is so strong at the beginning, wears off after a few years.

The one tonight turned 4 today.  I will be attending her brother's party in November and, depending on the Thanksgiving family schedule, her foster sister's party also in November.  The young man will be 12 and the young lady will be 11.  The next one after that is in February for a 9 year old.  Then, their mother (my cousin) will be 30 in April so I've got about 8-10 birthdays a year to go to plus Bible Studies every other Friday night (the best way to spend a Friday night, IMO) and now the occasional kid sitting, which I have a feeling I will be doing more of in the weeks and months to come.

Although the bigger events were 'community' ones, of course. Quite often linked into the inevitable village fete: if I remember right there were three major ones in the area, which is actually less than the number of traditional parishes. I think it may have been that others did them, but they weren't as good, which would explain that disturbing anomaly. One in particular (in the village home to the last primary school in the area) was very child-orientated.

Only if it's a party for children of sexually frustrated young single moms.

Bushie takes a lot sick days from work, school, life etc.  I wonder if he has ever missed a kiddie party due to illness?
