Freedom Music of course. It makes up the vast majority of videos I've put on YouTube.

Pop Hardcore Punk is even better.

I never really understood what made a "pop" variation if a genre different from the regular genre. Does it have something to do wit the signing style? Or the lyrical content?

The pop punk scene in Minneapolis is still huge, and it's not just local bands that play here.

I consider there to be slight differences, though it's not uncommon for one band to have songs that fall in one category and some songs that fall in another.

For example this I would consider to be melodic hardcore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LuBLpnp7Ck
This (same band) is pop hardcore punk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M7e05QsNxs

Neutral, lean Freedom Music, especially the likes of The Offspring and Green Day, the latter of which I saw live back in 2009.

Don't really listen to too much of it now, mainly due to changing tastes, and some bands of the pop punk genre I'm indifferent to (e.g. The All-American Rejects, was never a huge fan of them), or don't like (e.g. Sum 41).

Freedom music. The whole "not really punk" thing just seems like snobbishness and No True Scotsman to me.

Not at all what I'm looking for when I listen to punk. I don't care much for melodic hardcore either.

No true kitten would have made such a statement.

But it's not as if there were a generally agreed working definition of punk, anyways. Smiley

Should I assume the phrase has morphed since I first heard it? That would be in the late 70's to describe early punk crossing over and adopting pop-like melodies for popular appeal. It was applied sometimes to the Ramones and some other bands that were eventually categorized as New Wave. If it still applies to the original meaning and bands, then put me down for FM.

This is what modern pop punk sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQwqC8t-5ag

There's definitely some quality to be found, but the term just screams Simple Plan.

The vast majority of it is not like that all. Like see all my links. I listen only to underground pop punk.
