I understand that the Israel language was the hang up for the last FPR, what I have in here is what I'd want in a perfect world, but I'd be willing to listen to other ideas. The only thing that I won't compromise on is that I am not willing to provide military aid under any circumstances as long as Israel has occupation forces the Palestinian Territories and they are still building settlements there. Maybe would could provide extra economic aid to compensate?

There is absolutely no way I will support this with full military restrictions on Israel. Israel is our greatest ally in the region - placing restrictions on them will simply alienate them, though I'm sure tension has already been created by how the Senate has handled this issue thus far.

Persuasion should come from behind closed doors between Atlasia and Israel. Removing part of their military aid might only be appropriate after intense negotiations have fallen through, and that has not occurred yet. It is my hope that Bacon King, upon being confirmed as SoEA, will recognize this and go meet with Israeli government leaders.

I have no great dog in this fight, as my foreign policy views in general probably have more in common with TNF than Tmth, and I wouldn't consider myself of great expertise on this subject. However, my general view is anti-military aid, period.

My question is what does full military restrictions mean in this context?

I hate to open up another can of worms here, but why not just eliminate military aid altogether, for all countries? Why should we be funding other nations' military budgets?

Military aid can and, in plenty of cases, has backfired, so I echo this question.

While I share the sentiment, I worry that a precipitous withdrawal of all our military aid, would have a destabilizing effect on the global situation. I would require a meticulous process to withdraw it completely.

As for the Israel situation, if we must apply a tough standard, then my preference would be to establish some kind of provisional but full determination whereby the administration can reduce the level once they have attain the desired results.

An amendment:

This is about as far as I'm willing to go on Israel - the appropriate thing to do here would be to simply enter into extensive private negotiations with Israel. This is not how we should be handling things with our greatest ally in the region.

We must not aid Israel militarily in any fashion so long as that aid is being used to mow down Palestinian children and push the Palestinian people off of their land.

I object to Tmth's amendment.

Israel needs to stop building settlements or it gets nothing. This is not a debate we are having here. Settlements need to stop, no ands, ifs or buts. The debate should be over what the ultimate border would be between Israel and a future Palestinian nation. BK can negotiate that with Israel, not whether settlement building needs to be stopped. That is a non-issue as far as I am concerned.

IF this fails, I plan to offer one next along the lines of what I discussed a few days ago.
