I'm not sure we should be running into this with sanctions. However, the military restrictions have been moved to partial, which is good, and I'd prefer a strong cut to military aid and bases across the globe. That being said,

As imperfect as this compromise is, it may end up working out for the best if we can prod Israel toward negotiations in a relatively gentle manner. This is an issue where it can be difficult to find middle ground and I think this version of the amendment is the best compromise I've seen to this point. Not that compromise is always good, but we've tried the other route with this resolution before and it's gone nowhere.

Obviously none of them are pleased with it. I don't believe it'll cause any significant damage if I can work fast enough to resolve negotiations and get sanctions lifted. The previous form would have been devastating, but since this sets conditions and a timetable to do so it should be fairly workable. We already have the basis of a territorial map in the works, and if it can pass the Knesset (and Abbas may be planning a popular referendum in Palestine), then that should fulfill much of the language laid out in the FPR - at least based on my interpretation of the phrase settlement building, the largest blocs being annexed/integrated and the remainder dismantled would meet the conditions. It's largely in their hands now, and this may give them an incentive to work quickly.

Any temporary security concerns as a result of this legislation should be countered by the recent deployment of peacekeeping forces to Palestine. These forces, along with forces from other Quartet members including Russia and the European Union, will conduct anti-political violence operations in the West Bank to ensure security and stability while the accords are being drawn up.

I just don't know whether the SoEA will follow up on this and whether the Senate will impose the sanctions in December or January or whenever the deadline was. I won't be here to regulate it. Hopefully TNF continues his good work then and makes sure we hold them accountable.
