As long as the Guv has an R next to his name, he gets a high ranking. Not surprising- it is the Wall Street Journal after all.

Yeah, I figured it would be a little biased.  From what I can gather they do their rankings based on spending and taxes.  If you cut spending and cut taxes you get a high grade.

Governor Rendell - F.

The real question: What would Rendell's rating be at his day job? (Football commentator)  Tongue

Wall Street likes Arnold because he pushed for massive fiscally irresponsible bonds. California gets bad interest rates because of its credit rating, so it was great for Wall Street. In fact, Wall Street had given Arnold huge amounts of money in the campaign (it was a Proposition). Some other bond Proposition got passed at the same time. A total of $27 billion was borrowed. I voted against them. Funny how the only fiscally responsible people are liberals like me.

That letter next to Governor Taft's name looks like an R and he got an F. I guess I need to get my eyes checked.

Virginina was recently rated the most fiscally responsible and best managed state in the nation by a different publication and Warner still got a D.  Must need to get my eyes checked.

Don't nitpick. You know that the vast majority of Democrats got low rankings, and the vast majority of Republicans got high rankings. Don't bullsh**t by pointing out one of the (very) few exceptions. That goes for J.J's comment too.

Another thing is Arnold just their favorite guy, even more so than Owens? The reason is that for governors with the same grade, they don't seem to be in any particular order, so maybe they're still ranked.

I guess they don't care that Rendell is proposing to cut corporate income taxes.

Well, that's the WSJ for you.

I love the absense of New Jersey. I guess they can't really rate Codey yet, though.

Ok, a D may be a little low but an A, she's not that good.

From the comments I've heard around this forum, I'd say most of you wouldn't agree with the Pataki "B" rating.

I certainly wouldn't give him anything above a B- at best.

Of course, the WSJ is based in NY, so they don't want Pataki coming down & shutting down the paper, I suppose... Wink

I'm surprised that Romney only got a C.
If Richardson wants to run for president, this certainly would harm him, wouldn't you think?  Economic conservative?
And I love Jennifer Granholm, no matter what her record.  She could go out and kill dogs and pregnant women and I'd still love her.

How does someone with a 34% approval rating get a B???

Arnold should not get an A and Kenny Guinn should not get a D.  Nevada is kicking California's butt economically, so putting Arnold at the top and Guinn at the bottom makes no sense.

Bill Owens is overrated as well, he's an empty suit who benefits from a state constitution that constrains the legislature's ability to screw up.

It's important to read the article, and not just look at the chart. The WSJ points out that this is the Cato Institute ranking, not theirs. Also note that this takes in the entire term as Governor and recent performance by Pataki and Bush are lower than their overall grades.

My guess is Warner got a D for pushing through a tax increase. We do have a budget surplus, though, plus a AAA bond rating (the best possible).
