lol at KKE above PASOK.

I wouldn't trust polls to show XA support accurately - there'll be shy voters, especially after this highly-publicised murder, and their 2.5% point fall just seems to disappear into the ether of Undecideds.

The other poll you mentioned (changes from their poll last month):

They seem as easy to read as UK polling(!).

So XA still has a potential support of up to 15-20%. Not much has changed then.

Greece is not a democracy, it is a republic.

1. The dichotomy between "democracies" and "republics" is false, overused, and hackneyed.
2. This is especially so in Greece. Δημοκρατία is the Greek word used for both of these English terms. To a hellenophone, "democracy" and "republic" are literally the same thing.
3. At any rate, please explain how a system that not only allows - but requires - all adult citizens to vote in their proportionally representative national parliament should not be considered a representative democracy.

So is it possible PASOK dies out? Based on those results they could keep a majority with ND (thanks to the 50 seat bonus), but at that point it's not even a grand coalition anymore, PASOK is just propping up a government utterly hated by their potential voters.

Really I'm trying to think what type of person is voting for PASOK still. Only thing I can think of would be hardcore Moderate Heroes who've never voted for ND in their lifetime and for whatever reason never want to.

PASOK's voters now are almost entirely over 65. The few PASOK supporters younger than that are probably members of PASOK-affiliated trade unions.

Wouldn't olds on social security-equivalent and pensions be the most hurt by austerity?

As mindblowing as this statement is it doesn't really say anything of worth. Greece is not the United States, where right-wing politicians think it's clever or meaningful to smugly claim "We're actually not a democracy, we're a repubic. The Founding Fathers, you see," as if it's a significant statement that implies anything meaningful at all about the political system.

That's not to say that DC Al Fine's statement isn't shallow and lazy, mind you.
