The funny thing is that Liberals traded Congress for their control of Universities.

Back in the late sixties/early seventies they voted to deny tenure to a lot of their Republican/Conservative colleagues.  Locked out of academia they went into politics.

In 1994 many of them were elected to Congress.  Chief among these academians turned professors was Newt Gingrich.
