Ain't that the truth (though I'd put in a good word for grapefruit too, since I like bitter). I can't stand mixed drinks with lemon- the tartness overpowers everything. But limes have a softer acidity that works just fine.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I am exactly the opposite. Grapefruit is much too bitter, and even limes are often too bitter (though the flavor of both otherwise is delicious. The Japanese are great at grapefruit that isn't too bitter). So I love lemon sour in my mixed drinks. Sour, to me, is much better than bitter... which is nearly unpalatable to me.
