Richard Nixon secretly helped Reagan pick a lot of his cabinet in memos sent to the candidate and then President-elect, for example, Haig as Secretary of State and Schultz were picked because Nixon heavily suggested them. A lot of other Nixon people were picked by Reagan at Nixon's suggestion--Even after Watergate, Reagan still respected Nixon.

The one suggestion Reagan didn't take was Nixon's suggestion of taking Henry Kissinger on as Secretary of State.

Let's say he had done so, and Kissinger served as Secretary of State under Reagan from 1981-1989.

How might our foreign policy have looked with Reagan/Kissinger running it in the '80s?

Everyone hates America even more than now, and he probably starts a nuclear war.

Besides, Kissinger's association with Nixon would have made him unpopular from day one and Reagan would loose re-election.

How objective and serious.

Maybe Kissinger would have handled negotiations with the Soviet Union in a better way that George Schultz during Reagan's first term, but probably not too much of a difference overall.
