I go with Option 2. The left wants to keep religion out of life, and the right wants region to be involved in society always. It always makes me mad when freedom of religion gets suppressed, like the Tennessee girl who got told God couldn't be her hero by her teacher. But at the same time, people shouldn't be forced to stand up for the pledge of allegiance, or get yelled at for not participating in religious public activities in every day life. It doesn't mean that persons a terrorist or hates America, it just means they are not comfortable with religious activities. So, Ideally, people should have the freedom of expressing their religion, but also having the freedom of opting out or not participating in it.

Where do you stand?

Option 2. Religious people should be able to exercise their rights to practice and proclaim their faiths, and at the same time non-religious people should be able to exercise their rights to believe what they wish and not be required to participate in religious activities.

stupid poll, assumes a metaphysics where 'religion' is clearly defined as one thing and not another.

the poll assumes 'religion' has some static definition that everyone agrees upon and won't/shouldn't be challenged.

So your arguing that religion could be something else than a bland definition? Fair enough, the religion definition can go as vast as any kind of belief system that makes you feel better/forms your life or at least has an affect on your life. I'm not limiting religion to Christianity or any kind of belief in God if that's what your implying. A religion can be any belief. But as the options are concerned, you have the left and right viewpoints, and you have two other options for more centrist viewpoints, is that bad or skewed? Is the way I worded them skewed?

This is like the definition of this website. Tweed posting some postmodern sh!t and some libertarian 16 year old not understanding. I can't think of a more quintessentially atlas exchange.

I basically agree with the OP, and would add support for irreligious state institutions and symbols.

Religion should be allowed, but it shouldn't be mandated.

It shouldn't play a role in an established church sense, but yes, I'd support religion, especially serious religion playing more prominent role in our culture. None of this Joel Osteen crap though Tongue

Option 2. Anyone should be free to have their own beliefs and practices so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of other individuals.

The left wants to keep religion out of life,

No it doesn't, unless by "the left" you mean certain types of communists, but I assume you're talking about liberals, of whom this statement most certainly is NOT true.

Do you really think much anyone serious is going to vote other than option 2? Of course people should be able to express it when they want to, but I personally must say that I find most religious expression annoying in the extreme. And furthermore, government laws should NEVER be based exclusively on Biblical justification, they must always have some sort of logic behind them that could make sense theoretically to anybody.

Are you one of those people who thinks there's them some special law that exempts churches specifically?

Religion should have no role in Government and play a secondary role in society (IE: keep it to yourself)
