Why cut ourselves off from a means of becoming energy independent?

Probably not.  It should be restricted to reduce environmental damage, but I would not support a complete ban since we may need the energy.

I lean pretty strongly toward, "Yea (I/O)" but am open to being persuaded that regulation would suffice.

Are we going to ban any and all activities with potentially negative environmental consequences?

Nay.

Nay.

The water in the Monongahela river was never sanitary to begin with. Not that I drank it much then either.

The people posting in this thread have given plenty of reasons to vote against this bill. I however, would like to give one more and expound a little further on this matter.

I had a professor who is far more knowledgeable than myself about environmental matters. He argued that fracking could play an important role in reducing carbon emissions out of China, whose share of global carbon dioxide emissions is skyrocketing. Yes this is not China, but what message do we send if we ban the practice that we should hope they adopt? Knee-jerk measures are knee-jerk.

I err on the side of caution on environmental issues I'll never fully understand.

No I support drilling on 1% of the ANWR as long as there is no subsidization or oil refineries. In the meantime we should be providing tax incentives for families and households using renewable sources of energy.
