Should probably be mentioned that Frankschämen is a play on the word "fremdschämen" (pretty much means that you cringe at somebody acting in an embarrassing manner).

So lemme get this straight...they're trying to poke fun at a far right populist by using a homophobic slur (or did they mean it in the literal sense)?

But if we just shut out everyone past a certain amount, those poor people will still have no place to go.

So where would you draw the line? A million or perhaps two? How about doubling Austria's population? Anyway, they have plenty of places to go...it's not like they didn't cross other EU (or safe) countries on their way to Austria.

Exactly. I support the current system which is outfitted to house some 15.000-25.000 asylum seekers, but not the 60.000 that are expected this year without creating problems for municipalities
So let us drown them all in the Mediterranian?

Yes, cause it's a choice between "let them die" and "naturalize them as soon as they set foot on European soil." It's rather simple: What is the best way to stop people from getting onto these boats in the first place? Probably to take action in northern Africa and to have a rather strict immigration policy which means most of these folks (seeing as they are economic migrants) will find themselves back home in no time, €3000 poorer and wiser (presumably they'll pass that information on to potential other migrants).

I never claimed that you were supporting the FPÖ. The point remains that you are using their rhethoric.

Instead of getting hung up on whether somebody uses FPÖ rhetoric you ought to debate the merits of their arguments. Tender is right when he says that most of the economic migrants crossing the Med will in all likelihood not contribute anything to society.

The problem is we do not have another America to fill.

Moreover those heading to the US in the past could work their way up. You got off the boat and could start doing some menial labor right away. What the hell is Europe going to do with hundreds of thousands of largely uneducated migrants on the other hand? We don't have enough jobs to go around for the existing blue collar segments of the population so most of the folks coming to Europe will wind up disillusioned and frustrated.

Thanks. At least right now it's not telling me that I'm a dirty German who's trying to watch glorious Austrian tv for free (unlike the BBC iPlayer).
