As I really don't want to take up a huge amount of space by having six separate topics, I've decided to make the confirmation thread one monolithic topic.

The following are the nominees for the cabinet positions:

Vice-President: Alcon
Secretary of State: Siege40
Secretary of Defense: Jake
Secretary of the Treasury: Cosmo Kramer
Secretary of Forum Affairs: King
Attorney General: MHS2002

We'll have 24 hours of questioning (starting now) followed by a vote.

If you wish to take part in the question and answer period, please indicate, before you ask or respond to something, who your question or answer is directed towards in order to keep the process orderly.

I'd like to be questioned by the senate, if they desire.

What do you plan to push forward if elected Secretary of Defense?  Do you plan to ask for more money?  Will you try and streamline the department?  How will you handle the troubles we've faced recently like Iraq and China?

I guess that's enough.

Grill me like a steak, gentlemen.

How do you plan to use the symbolic power of the VP office?
If votes are tied, will you vote independently or along whatever TrueDem thinks is best for the bill, etc?

No other questions really.

Ask away my Senate brothers and sisters.

What are your plans to reform the SoFA department and how we conduct elections in Atlasia?

That's probably all too.

What are your plans to reform the SoFA department and how we conduct elections in Atlasia?

I was just talking with President True Democrat about this.  I plan to release 7 legislative proposals that will bring in MAJOR voting reform.

One of my proposals is to create a government panel of three people that will report on ways to improve our current electoral system.  We can hopefully have this panel up and running soon with the Senate's support.  And hopefully we can get some of its recommendations up by the April Midterms.

What are the others?

The Seven Proposals, briefly:

(S) = Statute
(CA) = Constitutional Amendment

P1:  (S) Puts limits on GOTV drives by large parties.
P2:  (S) Creates a Deputy SoFA.
P3:  (CA) Changes laws on filling vacated Senate seats.
P4:  (CA) Changes some rules on the redistricting and the Census.
P5:  (CA) Changes regional map regulations.
P6:  (S) Some small talk on voter education...
P7:  (S) *what I just talked about*

If you want the actual proposals, you will just have to confirm me to get 'em.  Grin

Ok, we're waiting, then.  I assume #6 will be somewhat like what I just introduced to the Senate.

#6 only creates a new Register Thread and an "Ask the SoFA" thing for first time voters.  Not a real necessary bill, but it is useful.

No other questions really.

I plan to use the power of the Vice Presidential office to do what I believe every Vice President should do - be ready to be President if necessary. I am prepared to accept that job if necessary, and pledge to be active and able enough to assume that position if the unthinkable happens.

If there is a senate tie, I will vote not in a True Democrat way or an independent way, but in an Alcon way. The only things that will enter the equation for me is what I believe is the best end result for Atlasia; this is a mix of my personal opinion and my view of what means will produce the best ends. Nothing else will even be a factor.

I hope that answers your questions to satisfaction, and I would like to thank Mr. King for the delicious steak. :)

To Siege40:  What type of image would you try to give the rest of the world as official ambassador from Atlasia?

Would you be more active in your conduct of the job than some past Sec. of State's and what would be your goals in office?

To Cosmo Kramer:  What are your plans in trying to converse with the Senate in trying to create Atlasia's first-ever budget (an important priority by my standards)?

How would you make the Sec. of the Treasury an important part of the cabinet instead of the often overlooked part that it has been since its creation?

The image I want to create is the role of a world police man, but not literally policing the world, if that makes sense. Protecting those who are good, and punishing those who are bad. Atlasia should defend fledgling democracies and oppose autocracies. I want Atlasia to use strength if need be to enforce policy. Senator Colin W's legislation involving Syria, Lebanon and Iran in my opinion is fair. Nations of despotism do not have the right to stand on par with the democracies of the world.

I plan to have much more increased activity than my predecessors. I want to do with the State Department, like John Ford did to the Defense Department, bringing a level of seriousness and reality to the fold.

My first goal will be to encourage the rising democratic movement in Lebanon, and send strongly worded messages to Russia and Syria. Russia, because of the sale of nuclear technology to the Iranians and Syria for meddling in Lebanese affairs.

To Siege40: Will you work with the Senate during your time as Secretary of State to help implement your foreign policy ideas? What countries will you try and visit as Sec State?

To Jake: Two general knowledge questions first. Why are troops in South Korea? What is the reason for those troops being there? Secondly, what three tanks are considered "top of the line" (HINT: One is British, one is Russian, one is American)? Also, what do you think should be done about troops in Germany? Do you believe that all non-essential personnel should be re-deployed elsewhere?

To MHS2002: Do you agree with the courts dropping of the George W. Bush case? Do you believe that Attorney General Harry acted inappropriately in not pursuing the case? Do you think that GWB was not given a speedy trial?
