In the last poll (above) I had four options, Socialism, Laissez Faire, Welfare State, and Statism. But Statism practically got no votes, and Socialism only got a few votes from the far lefties. So, D's will go overwhelmingly for Welfare State, that's obvious, but it'll be interesting to see where the I's and possibly even R's go in this poll.

Again, here are the basic Wiki articles about each idea/theory:

Laissez Faire: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laissez-faire

Welfare State: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_state

Laissez Faire (I/O)

Neither. Laissez faire is great in theory, but could only succeed in complete anarchy, and complete anarchy is awful in theory Tongue.

I don't mind a small welfare state, but I would prefer it be administrated on a local level and be limited.

Why would anyone who prefers a Socialist State prefer Laissez-Faire over a Welfare State?

That would be like someone who when told they can't have Kobe beef decides they'd prefer store-brand Vienna sausages over USDA Choice.  (And to the people of Vienna, I do apologize to them for the abomination we call a Vienna sausage over here in the US.)

20% - not a million miles away from the 34.3% you laissez faire lot obtained.

The doctrine of laissez faire was to the nineteenth century what Leninism was to the twentieth.

Welfare state (normal).

Only children on the internet and ignorant libertarians (but I repeat myself) would vote any other way.

Yes, but with the massive amount of liberals on this site 20% of the vote is quite low.

Not really sure what I was thinking, I didn't think Socialism votes would translate into Laissez Faire votes, but just that independents would be interesting to be watch in general.  Mainly though the purpose of this poll was to narrow it down.

Really depends on where you draw the line between laissez-faire and welfare state.

Other (workers' state where all are guaranteed the full fruits of their labor), which I guess is closer to the humanistic capitalism that is the modern Nordic welfare state.

Not at all; the welfare state is only necessary within capitalism  because workers are generally unable to survive on just their labor, as the ruling class extracts said fruits. That's what wage labor is; theft.

The welfare state isn't perfect, but its better than most alternatives I've seen.
