Not at all. This is one case where the anti-political correctness brigade would actually have a valid point, despite them rarely bringing it up, or at least far less than attacking the terms African-American (Which has a very valid use when not simply used as a stand-in for "black", which it rarely is today) or Native American (which is FAR more accurate than "Indian".) since the PC term (Inuit) is quite inaccurate and doesn't refer to all the Native peoples of Alaska, nor even a majority of them, the Inupiat and Yupik most certainly are not Inuits, neither are the native Aleutians, though they aren't really Eskimos either. This would be equivalent to referring to all Native Americans/Indians as Sioux or Cherokee. Perhaps the closest example is how ignorant white South Africans (and often Westerners when referring to South Africa) often called all the blacks in South Africa "Bantu".

I would rather call them Native Alaskan or First Nations, but I will admit that I use Inuit as shorthand. Eskimo brings up visions of stereotypes; Inuit is at least a little better.

We all gotta stop getting bothered by random bits of culture that are bound to pop up here and there and need to kick back, get jobs, and stop giving a damn about ridiculous, social liberal causes we pick up because our brains are useless at real thinking. Good job, BRTD, you're on the right path.

'Eskimo' becoming non-pc is an example of American English being influenced by another English, in this case Canadian, and I approve of the shift on those grounds. Cheesy

No, but I am bothered by the term "Arctic monkeys."

No love for the band?

You think the Yupik and Inupiat prefer being called Inuit to Eskimo?

Probably not; and if I encountered a member of those groups (and knew who I was talking to), I'd describe them as Native Alaskan or First Nation. Eskimo is still pretty bad, even if Inuit is unacceptable.

No. Apart from what BRTD said, I don't think that traditional exonyms should be changed just because the peoples they apply to want them to be (and it would be rather hypocritical of me to think otherwise, considering my position on the Gypsies) This excludes obviously offensive exonyms, which doesn't seem to be the case here. Another reason is that in my native language there has not been the same shift as in English and Eskimos is still the preferred term.

I'm bothered by the creation of threads asking about my feelings on the use of the term "Eskimo".

No one calls them Eskimos anymore in Canada. I wouldn't know what to call Alaskan natives if they're not technically Inuit? For me an Eskimo is someone who plays for the Edmonton football team.

No one calls them Eskimos anymore in Canada.

That's because virtually all Eskimos in Canada are Inuit. That is not true in Alaska however.
