Question: can Boehner still bring up the passed Senate deal for a clean CR?

Sounds like there aren't enough votes in the House to pass their own plan. Vote might be delayed until tomorrow. John Boehner, from an organizational and leadership sense, is an awful speaker!

Ok, so supposedly the House plan would include a provision prohibiting the Treasury from using extraordinary measures in the future to extend a default deadline. Ummm, can somebody explain the reasoning behind that one?

The goal is that the next debt limit debate will have a hard ceiling (as in, we default the following day) to increase leverage the next time this argument happens.

But there's no indication as of yet that Boehner will bring the Senate deal up for a vote in the House.

Ouch.  Any hope for the Republicans of salvaging this situation is lost now.

I mean if the House was actually able to pass such a bill, at least they could have claimed that they were trying to negotiate, but this leaves them literally nothing to stand on.

lol the GOP is in shambles.  They can't even agree on wanting to suspend the medical device tax.  It means we've reached a watershed moment: They can't agree on cutting taxes--the only thing that has kept them together all these years.

GOP is dead. Done. Over. Forget it.

Calling the Republican Party dying hyperbole is hyperbole.  Not even the Democrats bottoming out in the 90s and 00s were in such disagreement.

The Republican Party is a rusty bridge held loosely together by Scotch tape with Truckers for the Constitution carrying 1000 tons of garbage driving over it.  There's no way it can hold.

All this shutdown has shown us is that our nation is not divided 50-50 but divided 50-25-25.  The House has no majority.

FROM CNN

SOURCE: SENATE "CLOSE TO A DEAL" AND "COULD BE FILED TONIGHT"

They also said Boehner may allow to vote once it reaches the House.

If this is true, which I doubt, Boehner will see a challenge to his job.

If he allows, think he will get kicked out as Speaker this year?

So the only things standing between us and financial Armageddon is hoping Ted Cruz doesn't delay the bill in the Senate and John Boehner brings to the floor of the House?

Much too premature me thinks.  The GOP survived the Great Depression and Hoovervilles, Watergate...sure there may be some short term division and pain, but the whhhgarrrbl folks will fall back in line and rejoin the family at christmas when they realize the system gives them few other places to go for the holidays.  And then we'll have the same sort of fun in a new re-messaged package.

He has said that he wont let the country default.

It will come up for a vote, the question is whether or not he has the votes to pass it

Anyone who seriously thought Boehner would allow the country to default and ruin his historical legacy is insane. He knows that in the long run, even if he loses his Speakership, that this deal is better for his legacy and the country.
