Meh. The good of the Revolution only slightly tempers the fact that most of them owned slaves and did what they could to keep them. I try and separate their philosophies from their personal lives when I can, but all too often one was affected by the other.

On the balance, still pretty huge Freedom Fighters.

FFs as a whole, but a few individual members were HPs.

Rich, white, slave owners who went to war over being taxed. The answer is obvious.

FFs for their time. The only genuine HP among them was Aaron Burr.

FFs, as even the acronym suggests.

FF overall. Yes, some of them did own slaves inherited from their fathers, grandfathers, etc.(Jefferson, Madison, Washington, and a few others), and none of them were perfect......but all the good they did still convinces me to classify them as FF....especially Adams, Hamilton, Burr and Paine in my view.

I really like this, and would like to second it. Many of Madison's ideas in particular carry a lot of weight with me and I consider my ideology a descendant of classical liberalism, so there's that.

None of them would get my vote if they ran for office today, of course, but they have my respect.

Despite being traitors at least they have the distinction of leading one of the few revolutionary independence movements that did not turn into despotism once independence was won.

Of course that was largely because prior to the French and Indian War, the colonies were essentially de facto autonomous and after that war, Parliament tried to strip away that autonomy without offering anything in return.  Hence they had the advantage of building upon existing traditions of responsible government.

Depends. Generally HPs, but some FFs.

Basically this. They served their initial role (freeing the United States from British tyranny) quite well, although the actions they later engaged in (suppressing Shays' Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion, creating a godawful plutocratic Constitution that we are still stuck with) were far from respectable or worthy of admiration.

HP's who "freed" us from the rule of an even bigger HP.  The only real FF among them was Thomas Paine, and thanks to their stupid constitution, he was barred from running for President.  So HP's overall.

A brilliantly clever conservative construct. As for the individuals themselves, it varies.
