From Christie's gubernatorial debate last night, a couple of answers to be tagged for future reference in a 2016 campaign....on what he would do if his child was gay:

Christie also reiterated on climate change “I think climate change is real and I think human activity plays a role”, though that's something he's said before.

Either he pussies out and kills his support with moderates, or he tells the truth and get massacred by the base.

Yeah that's one of few things that really gets me about Christie.

Anyone else think his response giggle-worthy? His since of humor alone is reason enough to support him.

Christie would have been wise to push for marriage privatization. Recognize all unions as civil unions, and allow churches to marry any couple they want too, if the couple opts for a religious ceremony.

I think your Mom had more to do with it.  God already shot his wad twenty centuries ago.

Well, the answer on the gay child is barf worthy.

At first I thought that it was paraphrased, then I actually read the article. I wholly agree, although I don't know how this will effect his probable 2016 run, between him banning reparative therapy on minors and his veto of the gay marriage bill being overturned. I'm still willing to bet that his support for gay rights of any kind will hurt him in the primaries, unless he goes Mitt on us and runs his campaign by twisting the facts about the economy under Obama's second term.

I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way. It just seems that your fondness of Christie is rooted in reasons that are stylistic rather than substantive.

I knew he couldn't go full out liberal on these social issues, but it looks like he's doing a really good job appealing to the moderates.

I like the guy. I think he's a good leader and would do a good job of uniting both parties to end political stalemate. That matters more than implementing full socialism in America right this second.

So then mosques would be allowed to have polygamous marriages, no? Even if it would have no legal bearing on anything that's still something that wouldn't go over very well with the GOP

But just why do you think he's a good leader/would be a good president? Did you like him before hurricance Sandy? It seems like the Hurricane changed massively changed Democrats' view of Christie, for no particular reason. Would you support Bush 43 because he was likable? Dubya is, by most accounts, a great guy personally (and has never bullied his opponents like Christie used to do) - I didn't see many Democrats supporting him for that reason.

I totally understand why Republicans would like Christie, but the recent love for him in Democratic circles seem pretty bizarre.

I did like him before Sandy, but mostly because I was a Conservative at that point. It wasn't just Sandy though. It was his newfound (which it's a shame that it took something like Sandy to get him to change but i digress) desire to pass bipartisan legislation, including some gun restrictions and expanding medical marijuana use in New Jersey. He was a bully, sure, but it's the "Jersey style." If there's one thing I have difficulty explaining clearly and without sounding like i'm rambling is my admiration for Governor Christie.

So he's more of a John McCain right-winger than a Ted Cruz right-winger. Big whoop.

You may not like his policies, but it's hard to argue the guy isn't a solid leader. He's incredibly good at building interpersonal relationships (as evidenced by the 50+ Democrat office holders endorsing him this year). He's gotten a lot of work done for the state despite dealing with a Democratic legislature. He's not afraid to fight for New Jersey's urban areas and form alliances with local leaders. And while we're at it, yes: He did a stellar job handling Hurricane Sandy.

Whenever I think of it I just can't shake the feeling that Chris Christie is going to be the "Rudy Giuliani" of 2016. If somebody like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul or Scott Walker wins Iowa and rallies the right I just don't see how Christie can win. I think this time around the Far-Right is going to demand their turn at the nomination.

Wouldn't it be epic if we had a huge drawn out Hillary VS Obama style primary fight between Chris Christie and Ted Cruz? Just imagine the debates alone.
