The sponsor has 24 hours to speak on this. I also would like to see Polnut dragged in here if possible. Damn I miss having him as Senator. Tongue

Provision 2 could potentially run afoul of the IOC's charter (Article 50).

Could someone explain to me how the Olympics and American law interact before I take on a position on this either way?

I would assume it would be a non-binding relationship but one where both sides would want some degree of cooperation so as to ensure the games aren't jeopardized.

Well firstly the Olympics don't have laws that are recognised anywhere outside of their own organisation.

The Russian laws run counter to the fourth and fifth fundamental principles of Olympism...

My view, is that the Olympics are as much a reflection of human rights and what people are capable of as any other endeavour - the Olympics are known to have a strong desire to avoid over 'political' statements, my personal view is that showing support and solidarity for LGBTI athletes is not political, but a reflection of a support for human rights and dignity, completely in line with the fundamental principles of the Olympic Games.

I also draw Senator's attention to Section 2 part 6 of the Olympic Charter, in which it outlines that it is a responsibility of the IOC to:

Solidarity from the Atlasian Senate is not, to my reasoning, in anyway counter to Olympic Charter. If anything is counter to it, it is the Russian Laws.

This can be put to a final vote tomorrow afternoon. Too late for a UC request to make any different but just in case someone gets a bit chatty,

I request unanimous consent to waive the minimum debate time and cloture requirement to proceed immediately to a final vote. Senators have 24 hours to object.

I through the minimum debate thing in because it might save like fifteen minutes.
