I just found out a few minutes ago from my aunt that my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease this week. I don't think I'm supposed to know about this yet, but I think any prayers would help. She's 78 and has been having difficulty finding words every here and there over the past few years, so in a sense, I'm not particularly shocked.

I'm having lunch with grandma and some of my aunts tomorrow, so perhaps I'll find out more then.

I'm just doing some basic Google/Youtube research on it now, and I didn't realize how devastating of a condition it is.

Thanks everyone.

Dementia of any kind is difficult to live with and with us living longer lives, it does affect us more.  May your family receive the grace to deal with this in a manner as peaceful as possible.

I'll pray for you and your family. Let me know if you need any sympathy or advice; Alzheimer's took my grandfather three years ago this Christmas.

I lost my great aunt in San Antonio this March. Not sure if it was Alzheimer's per se, but it was at least something similar, if not that. Sad

My sincerest condolences, and we'll be here for you every step of the way.

I'm sorry to hear that, Miles. My grandmother may also be in the beginning stages of some sort of dementia, but she's very stubborn and doesn't want to see a doctor. I hope that you and your family will have the strength to deal with this difficult situation.

Well, thanks everyone.

I saw my grandma today. To be honest, if my aunt didn't tell me that my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I doubt I would have noticed anything out of the ordinary with her. From what what I gather, its very mild right now, so I'm glad that its not as bad as it could be. Two of my aunts are nurses, so she'll be in good hands; we're looking at what resources are available.

When I was praying my rosary last night, it was very comforting to know that I wasn't alone in praying for my grandma. Your support means a lot to me Cheesy

I wish you only the best. It's a horrible disease to deal with. My great-grandmother (who I never knew) died due to Alzheimer's in the 1970s in her mid-50s. It was a very tough ordeal for the family at the time. I hope modern medicine will give you considerably more time with your grandma. Speaking as someone who recently lost a grandparent, make sure you spend as much time as you can together.

I'm sorry to hear about this Miles, my own grandmother is about to die from dementia, so I'm no stranger to dementia and associated illnesses, like Alzheimer's.

My prayers will be with you and your family tonight, although Alzheimer's and dementia affect different people in different ways, I know you and your family will have a long, hard road ahead of you, and it's not easy Cry

My grandmother died in 2006 with dementia.  It was hard to watch her memory and functioning decline for a few years, so I have an idea what it is like.  You and your family are certainly in my thoughts and prayers.
