This is one of the biggest and most important races. NC needs a governor who will veto the crap the state legislature has been passing. Background checks to get SNAP? Really guys?

This is what happens when you hand over the Tar Heel State government to the Tea Party folks.

As this will be a big issue in the campaign, an NC Superior Court judge has halted the implementation of the NCGA's school voucher plan.

McCrory writes about the grocery incident last weekend.

Again, I'm obviously not a fan of McCrory, but if I were the cook, thats not the way I would have handled it.

Mayor Cannon has offered to help find the cook a new job.

HPU is out with a new survey and finds more of the same: no one in NC is popular.

Obama: 40/53 (40/54)
McCrory: 37/50 (37/40)
Hagan: 35/51 (33/43)
Burr: 33/39 (29/29)

Trendlines are from the beginning of the month.

McCrory goes on CNN Crossfire.

You can tell Van Jones and McCrory are thinking "screw you" as they smile at each other.

Elon has a poll out which mostly echoes the High Point poll.

American Insights, the firm that put out a questionable poll of the Senate race last week, has McCrory's approval at 43/40 and leading Cooper 44-38.

Pretty much the same picture from PPP this month. McCrory is at 40/47. Only 30% approve of how he handled the coal ash spill, 44% don't.

Dems lead 45-42 on the generic ballot, but both parties in the NCGA are equally as unpopular.

I think that these 3 Democrats are the only candidates that could defeat McCrory in 2016:
1. Roy Cooper
2. Anthony Foxx
3. Heath Shuler
4. Kay Hagan (if she loses her Senate re-election in 2014)

I'm not sure about Shuler. When PPP was polling every high profile Dem in the state right after Perdue retired, even the voters in the mountain area had a bet negative view of him. Also, enthusiasm from liberal Democrats might be an issue.

I'm thinking Cooper is the NC Democrats' best bet against McCrory.

Former Raleigh mayor Charles Meeker is going on a 'listening tour,' possibly with 2016 ambitions in mind.

Fox News and other networks confirm Cannon has resigned from office.

Bad news for the NC Democrats championship continues.

While Hagan holds the title as most unpopular statewide official (38/50) in the new SUSA, McCrory isn't much better; he's sitting at 39/49. I'd be curious to see how they defined the regions, but his disapprovals are up double-digits; the exception is Charlotte, where he's only slightly negative.

Also, the outlet that commissioned the poll, TWC News, interviewed former Raleigh mayor Charles Meeker. Meeker is considering a run. Democrats obviously already have a solid candidate in Cooper. If they can't get a good candidate for LG, they should try convincing Meeker to look at that race.

When's the last time North Carolina had their Governor and LG from different political parties during a 4-8 year period ?

Extremely vulnerable. Not in the Corbett zone, but in very bad shape. Add 6% to an early approval rating (according to Nate Silver) and you get a good prediction of the the vote share for an elected incumbent. As an average campaigner facing an average challenger he likely loses 54%-46%.

Incumbents have won despite such  low ratings -- but such is rare.

To give some idea of how unpopular Republicans are getting in North Carolina:

Q4
Do you approve or disapprove of Senator
Richard Burr’s job performance?

27% Approve
35% Disapprove
37% Don't know
