If Linda Coleman wins, will make history.

^ Yeah, I'm really hoping she wins this time, after it was so close in 2012.

For the first time since I've been alive, the Charlotte Observer is endorsing McCrory's opponent.

Hasn't McCrory been criticized for, on top of everything else, his failure to prepare the state for Hurricane Matthew's impacts?

Ah. But Cooper is up and Mike Morgan won, right?

Yeah, those are like literally the only two good things that happened.

Clinton lost, Ross lost, Republicans still have veto-proof majorities in both chambers of the legislature, Democrats lost almost all of the legislative races considered 'close', the Democratic Insurance Commissioner was defeated, the Democratic Superintendent of Public Instruction was defeated, the Republicans won the Treasurer race, Republicans won all five of the Court of Appeals seats up for election, and Republicans won most of the high-profile local races in the Triangle and Triad.

The Governor race has me worried.

I went 100% enthusiastically for Cooper; in fact me and my parents did. All 3 of us hope that he pulls it out because if not it will come down to a BS pick by the state legislature and that will be a nightmare and piss a lot of people off.

Hopefully Cooper's lead will grow on Friday and Pat will have some sense and concede. I doubt the latter will happen though; he'll make it annoying on purpose. UGH.

Better just to accept it gone and be pleasantly surprised should Cooper pull through.

All I can do is hope that, by some miracle, McCrory (easily one of the best five Governors in the USA- even before HB2) is saved.  If not, please give him an important role, President Trump!

A court packing scheme might make that all irrelevant. Considering how hysterically hackish the NC GOP is, they will probably go along with it.

Hackish is one thing. If the NC GOP expands the courts, or throws the election to the Assembly over "voter fraud", then they'll have become completely despotical.

So is it still possible for McCrory to win?

If McCrory is somehow given the win if he loses the popular vote, I will flip.

It sounded like Durham BOE was pretty dismissive of his claim from the tweet I saw

Watching my local NBC station in the Piedmont they have been pretty center this election in regards to state politics imo.

They talked about the recount. They had an expert who said most state experts don't expect anything to change if the margin is growing like most think it is. They also mentioned some GOP attorney sued and claimed there were voting irregularities in Durham. The BOE voted 2 to 1 that they agreed but they said according to the news it was only a margin of 40 votes and it wasn't in either the Governor or Presidential race.

So go figure...

What is going on in NC right now is literally the most anti-democratic way any state has been run in 50 years.

Pretty much; it's freighting really.

The possibility is that McCrory keeps claiming that the election was rigged (But not the Senate race I guess?), and eventually the legislature will claim that since the election is fraudulent, they will pick the winner.

And I don't care how hackish you are, if you cheer that possibilty then you are a beyond a hack. You are a f**king fascist. Willing to overturn democracy if it means "Our Guy" remains in power.

McCrory's claim is that the presidential, senatorial, and gubernatorial elections were "rigged" by a series of fraudulent stacks of straight-ticket-Democratic absentee ballots illegally submitted in a number of counties. McCrory's claim is that the people who orchestrated the fraud were unsuccessful in "rigging" the presidential election and senate election, but, successful in "rigging" the gubernatorial election.

I have to object to your labeling objecting to ballot fraud as "fascism." Name calling doesn't alter the fact that in a true Republic, the person entitled to take office is the person who received the most ballots by voters who were eligible [citizen's, of age, residents, non-disqualified by felonies, etc., casting one and only one ballot for which they were not paid to vote a certain way.] Submitting stacks of fraudulent ballots would be a fundamental assault on true Republicanism in favor of the type of "Republic" exists in third-world countries, as would voting twice, submitting ballots on behalf of third parties, including dead people , and non-citizens voting. If those who oversee elections turn a blind eye to such abuses, then, we live in a third-world style Republic, not a the true Republic the founding fathers envisioned.

Maybe McCrory wasn't able to overcome the fraudulent ballots that Trump and Burr did, but, that is a distinction that doesn't make a moral difference. If he took the plurality of lawful votes he is morally entitled to be the next governor.

Isn't it close enough for a recount, regardless of this?

^ Yes.

Looks like Cooper picked up votes today - his lead is up to over 5700 last I checked.

McCrory has pointed to large amounts of ballots that have the same witness signature. But that's something that's not uncommon with people targeted by GOTV measures.

The fact that they're all from minority-heavy counties.
