Poll
Question: Is it reasonable to make such a comparison?
#1
Yes. They both represented the fifth most conservative quintile of voters and fifth to two fifth most conservative pols in their respective day and ages.

#2
No. The problem isn't that they are too conservative, its that people who make the comparison are too liberal. The Klan would lynch Catholics (Santorum), Hispancis (Cruz) and Blacks (Cain), even if they agreed with them.

#3
The tea baggers suck but this is basically Godwin's Law lite.

3.

This "TEA=KKK" stuff is adorable considering how many of the people posting it will be wringing their hands the next time Krazen calls Obama a Marxist.

Option 3, except this is actual Godwin's law, just modified.

3-it makes about as much sense as the insane "Obama=Satan" type comparisons we see from the far right.

Although, I think that comparing the TEA party to the 1920s KKK is different than comparing them to the SA or those in the second quarter of the 20th Century that were much more rightwing than them.

3.  I don't care for the Tea Party by any stretch of the imagination, but this is ridiculous.

The Tea Party is not a single organization with a singular agenda. You know what group in 1923 is a better comparison to the views of the Tea Party?  Americans as a whole.

Pretty reasonable. Look at who got the endorsements of the Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund for US Senator.

There are obvious lines of continuity and obvious differences. Shrug.
