Can I include Flo's excellent design on the ballot?
I have no problem with that Smiley

Me to, I like it. A little bit like the War of the Roses era, but I like it.

Hearing no objection, the Assembly will now vote on a flag design.  Members will cast their vote by order of preference.  This vote will last 48 hours or until all members have voted.

[1] NOTA

Sorry, I'm just not really moved by any of them. I think choosing a new flag that we're really just going to be settling on will only prolong the issue we have with our regional flag. I'd contribute more, but obviously I'm fizzling out on the Atlasia thing. Certainly won't be running for re-election. I keep trying to get involved again because it feels like I should, but I'm just not really interested.

The Legislature has selected flag #3.

I hereby propose this amendment:

Friendly. I don't think its ideal, but its far better than the current flag.

Just to throw out a suggestion: do you think it might be a good idea to put whatever comes out to a vote? Its not usual procedure, but its the kind of thing people might care about and could coincide with the upcoming regional election.

I wouldn't mind putting it to a vote.  To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the flag either.  I just didn't know what else to put at that point.

Does anyone have anything to add, or should I open the cloture vote this evening?

I think I have to wait until 1:53 AM in case anyone objects to the amendment.

My apologies, I forgot to vote to choose one of the five flags. I see it won the 'Brazilian' option. It's fine Wink

Aye on the amendment. In case of public doesn't like the flag, I guess we should try harder...

Well, nothing in the R&P seems to suggest I can't open a cloture vote now, so I'll just do that.  Feel free to interrupt the cloture vote if anyone objects.

A vote on cloture is now open.  Please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

Crap.  We forgot to amend the bill to repeal the Change of Flag Bill.  Tomorrow I might introduce a bill that will do just that on the condition that this flag is approved.

Or we could just vote nay on cloture and offer that amendment here.

Tell me how you want me to vote on cloture. You're the speaker, so I'll leave it up to you. I just feel like it would be more convenient to do everything we need to do with the flag here and now.

Might as well do that.  I'm just trying to help the legislature move along more quickly, but it would probably be irresponsible of us to put it off.

Changing my vote to Nay.

Right. I agree with Hagrid and Scott. We should do it here to speed up the legislature...

Personally, I'm not a fan of the cloture votes at all. There is almost always a consensus to end debate anyway by the time a cloture vote is called.

I'm just following precedent.  I would gladly waive the cloture vote rule if circumstances permitted.  Technically the S&P doesn't mandate it, but former Speaker Hashemite held a cloture vote for each bill, as I recall.

So after the cloture vote fails, I'll propose the amendment, wait for it to be approved, and then ask for UC.

By a vote of 3-0, the motion fails.  Debate will continue.
