Mrs Grumps has a 2014 Grand Cherokee and I have a 2012 Jeep  Liberty.

Very nice choices!

Grumps:  Serious question.  How reliable are the Jeeps?  I'm about 2-3 years from needing to replace my Sentra and am pondering the idea of a Jeep.

Mrs.  Grumps and I have had 3 Jeeps each.........does that sound reliable?

No, but I'm getting a car soon because the public transit system sucks at getting people from one suburb to another and I still live at home. I will pay cash for said vehicle and it will be ugly as hell.

You have a point in that they are awful nowadays, for the most part, but you're growing up in a terrible time. When I was young cars were great - they cost almost nothing to buy and hardly ever needed repair, and when they did it cost like $50.

I own a 17-year old Citroën Xantia break that I rarely ever drive.

Probably the coolest car of the forum members, but then again, that's not saying much, and its a given that French cars are always the coolest:

Yes, I currently own a 2009 Audi A3 Sportback in silver.

Before that, from 2005 to 2009, I had a blue VW Vento (built in the Mid-90s).

...

Most of Austria is rather rural compared with where most of you people live. Even though public transport is available almost everywhere, with buses and trains running every 30 minutes or hour, it's still much better to have a car on your own (go to work, for shopping, cinema etc.)

Just digged into my harddrive archive and found this one with my old Vento and me:

I wonder where my old Vento is right now ...    Exploited and in a car graveyard in Poland/Romania/Hungary ? Or did it go into a junk press somewhere in those countries ? Or does someone in Nigeria drive around with it maybe ? I'll never know ... Tongue The last thing I remember is that the salesman I bought the new Audi from and who took the Vento back said that they'd sell it to some retailer in Eastern Europe ...

No, never have, since I can't see well enough to drive.  It often sucks not having one, for obvious reasons.  But at other times, since I don't have to bother with car dealers, car insurance, repairs, traffic, the ongoing expenses, direct payment of gas prices and the ten thousand other worries that cars require, I don't mind too much.

I love BMW wagons. It infuriates me to no end that they don't offer them in the US anymore and we have to make do with crap like this.

The 3-Series wagon still is offered in the U.S. (actually two generations have been offered since mine); it's just the 5 wagon that was eliminated a few years ago, and with good reason - fewer than 1,000 were sold in the last year they were available in the U.S. And there's actually some speculation that the 5 wagon might return to the U.S., but I haven't heard anything on that lately. But otherwise I agree with you wholeheartedly.

The station wagon in the US is a victim of CAFE.  Station wagons are classed as cars while minivans are classed as light trucks which have a easier standard to meet.

Just noticed that they brought the 3 wagon back, but there was a period of a couple of years where it wasn't sold in the US. The current Euro-spec 5-Series wagon makes me very jealous as an American.

I miss driving my Bimmer, but I certainly don't miss the mechanic bills.

I have the title for 2 cars.  A dying beater (96 Mazda Protege) and the best car I've ever owned (06 Mazda 3).
The dying beater is dead.  It's been replaced by a '08 Mazda CX-7.
