It seems to me that most major cities in the US have a suburb like Southlake. There tends to be a place around any urban area that accommodates zoning for large expensive homes that house CEOs, celebrities, and pro athletes. Lake Forest is probably the best equivalent for Chicago. The list of notable people is so long for this town of 20K that it has its own separate Wikipedia page.

Yeah, any place with big houses filled with selfish rich people who vote republican must be the worst place in America.

Edit: Yeah, went 73% McCain in 2008, is 84% white, and average household income is at $183,441, way higher than the average Texan household income of $50,920.

Also, if I may ask, where did you just "find" this?

Not a pleasant site, but certainly not the worst place in America either. Apparently at least part of it is represented by Wendy Davis. I'd think places such as the Oklahoma panhandle are probably less desirable.

Well, no... obviously a maximum security prison is a 'worse place', but...

I don't care if they're rich or not.

But I hope someone who managed to "arrive" in the world isn't really stupid/uncultured enough to think this can be accurately described as an "English Country estate."

Anyway, Southlake is full of petit bourgeois strivers who probably bought all the paintings in their house from the Thomas Kinkade store at the mall.

The Park Cities are where the real rich people in DFW live.

What's wrong with that house? I would love to be rich enough to afford it.

Anyway that general area is pretty uniformly tacky in this regard. Not really much of a difference between Southlake and Colleyville, Trophy Club and Flower Mound (except Southlake does tend to particularly excel in douchebaggery, I will grant that). It really gives the tiniest bit of perverse satisfaction to specify that you're not from those DFW suburbs.

The house architecture is actually decent unlike the cookie cutters of the petit bourgeoisie or the modern "architecture" of the degenerate wealthy.

Not that exactly, but I have little love for old houses (or old anything really) or sterile modern architecture. I prefer houses with lots of windows, especially like these.

The fact that there's an Apple Store there, but not in Brooklyn is still quite perplexing.

Why is that surprising? Although it is surprising that Brooklyn doesn't have one, it is not surprising that a rich city would have one. Everyone there probably has an iPhone.

Some first rate snobbery in this thread... Impressive, most impressive... Still I'd rather live there than in a slum, a poky little flat or some god awful communal residence...

Eh, they probably cherry-picked the ones that looked okay over the cookie cutter ones.  I'd bet a lot of the town looks like Medina.

Rich people usually don't shop in their own cities, but the middle class suburbs nearby. Those are the type of places where malls tend to be after all.
