Probably the most wildly overrated figure in American history. So glad I'm not one of these Republicans that shouts about how JFK would be a Republican these days nor would want him to be one.

Yeah, because there hasn't been a slobberfest over the Kennedy family (particularly JFK) for the past fifty plus years...

well, not denying that. however, you could play drinking games with the amount of times republicans mention they're reagan conservatives or reagan in some context or another during debates or cpac or stump speeches or whatever. at least democrats don't seem to have tourettes when it comes to their idol's name.

Massive FF, underrated in general by people who think they're sage (see the bizarre Woodrow Wilson backlash on the internet).

...and the same with Dems and JFK except for a longer period of time.

Disagree. Maybe not as much now but JFK still gets tons of attention.

Not as good as made out to be by the popular legend, not as bad as made out to be by the revisionist crowd. An above-average President with laudable goals but who never really had the chance to achieve much policy-wise.

I'm still a LBJ hack (yeah, I know, Vietnam etc...).

Oh for the days when a pop popping philander could be made POTUS and have nobody comment on it. Since his death, everyone has gotten all serious and now we are meant to care. Therefore I blame Oswald for the Shutdown.

How does the "WAR ON WOMEN!!!1" crowd in here feel about pig Kennedy asking his 18 or 19 year old mistress to give his brother some oral sex while he watched? Classy move? "OH BUT THE GLAMOR OF THOSE DAYS...!"

Well, they are the products of very different experiences and led very different countries in very different situations. I do (by a mile) prefer Palme to LBJ and would obviously have sided with him on Vietnam. Still, what these two figures achieved (relatively speaking) in domestic policy is actually pretty similar - actually, I could give an edge to LBJ on this issue considering Civil Rights.

My opinion of LBJ? I was told he was an inspiring man, and I do what I'm told.

Depends on what was in your head and what was between your legs. If you mean it was easier to coerce, I guess that's true. It seems these days it would be more fun and open for more people in the bedroom.

Yeah, but on the other hand boobs were shaped like torpedos in the 60s and no one shaved anything, so it's easy to see why one could go either way on this.

FF(R).

As a Republican, I have to say I strongly admire what the Kennedy administration accomplished and stood for.

He set us on a path that ended Jim Crow, avoided nuclear war, and sent human beings to the friggin moon.

Today we consider calls to service to be !!ZOMG SOCIALISM!!!! and cannot manage build a functioning insurance website.
