No, but there is an effort to paint the so-called "movement conservatives" of the mid-to-late 20th century as being respectable, compared to the Tea Party "crazies."

The movement conservatives of old have had power in Congress on and off for years. The Tea Partty obnoxiousness is a recent trend. What is the point of this thread, anyhow? I keep seeing this posts and threads about how the GOP is run by the Tea Party and how horrible we are. Apparently my party has always been like this….and Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia, apparently.

Heritage is now more a lobbying group on policy now than it was pre-Jim Demint. Before it did policy making but I don't think Rank and File Republicans really listened to Heritage. Now with the Tea Party Heritage has kind of attached to the Tea Party Wing in Congress in lobbying them. Remember when DeMint was in the US Senate I don't think he really listened to McConell he just did what he wanted and that was it. He was his own man. Now Ted Cruz is sort of the Demint of the US Senate and DeMint and Cruz have a good relationship. I do think DeMint did have a lot to do with Cruz holding up ACA with the government shutdown because Heritage did hatch this plan with ACA/Shutting down the government.

Full of a bunch of Catholic hacks.  Although the new Pope seems quite pleasant.
