Freedom, and yes I have seen most of the movie and know that only the last act takes place on Christmas.

It's a great one, but my favorite holiday films are the more modern ones.

1. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
2. Home Alone 1
3. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Good but overrated.  Miracle on 34th Street is definitely better as both an Xmas movie and as a film in general.

I have never seen it, so I have no opinion. I like older movies, but I hate Christmas movies in general, so I likely will never see it at all.

The movie wasn't initially marketed as a Christmas film which only came later when TV stations played it around that time.

Petition to ban ChairmanSanchez

It's actually got a political message, that community can overcome the evils of banking...which is quaint and outdated.  I believe Grumps played the part of the banker.

It's a wonderful movie.  I'm not usually one for suspension of disbelief, but Clarence, with all his imperfections, really complements George nicely.  Good casting.

I do agree with Ernest, though, as it is not really Frank Capra's best Xmas material.  It's not really even the best suicide line--Hamlet's soliloquy (Act 3, Scene 1) beats that.  If we were going to vote along the lines of what was the best Xmas movie of 1947, I too would have to vote for Miracle on 34th Street.  Still, the thread only asks about the movie in the abstract, and I am of the opinion that Wonderful Life is a wonderful movie.  A+

It's a great movie, but I was cringing a bit in 2009-10 or so when he goes off on that rant about being deprived of a mortgage.

Brilliant movie. Always loved it, despite some of its outdated-ness (particularly the Old Maid thing...Mary would've gone further than being a librarian, I don't doubt that.)

FF, not my favorite of Jimmy Stewart (Mr. Smith easily) but it's a fine and uplifting film.

The 1940's Miracle on 34th Street was not the best though, I found it pitifully boring. Neither version was that good, I found they missed a lot of potential.

My favorite's probably either Christmas Vacation or Santa Clause. Batman Returns can be a good watch but it's depressing as can be, only watch it early in the month if I do watch it.
