Its a controversy nowadays:

As for myself, I do rather like it, as it helps me to distinguish who is a student and who is not.

I support uniforms for elementary, middle and high school. For college/university, not so much.

Looks like BYU-Bangkok.

I agree with that.  But, I think the sartorial standards on many college campuses are terrible - tons of sweatpants, tons of T-shirts, tons of college branded gear.  It's really a bummer that young, smart people learning to become adults looks like piles of garbage.  Strict rules on dress probably aren't appropriate though.

I agree with this. I've heard it argued that uniforms/business dress promote a better learning environment but my experience TA'ing is that a bro is a bro whether he's wearing a suit or a backwards baseball cap.

What's the problem with functional clothing?

Hah, what's the 'function' of that hideously ugly clothing?  Birth control?

I don't support school uniforms for reasons of personal freedom, but they would be more aesthetically pleasing that what 90 percent of my school population usually wears.

As long as those being stuffed into these costumes are being properly reimbursed the expense, I don't have a problem. The idea that you can allow creativity and individuality to flow free or enforce order, discipline and respect for authority with a goddamn dress code is nonsense of course, but for purposes of identification it makes sense to me.

The girls look ready to shoot schoolgirl porn. The guys are either giving away the Book of Mormon or selling IBM mainframe computers in 1962.

My alma mater more or less did have an unofficial uniform that seemed to be sponsored by The North Face, Sperry and Lilly Pulitzer.

As usual, I agree with rejectamenta.

In most settings - universities included - dress codes seem disgustingly communitarian to me.

despite the class-leveling nature of it I can't find it within myself to support it.  I'm sensitive to telling young people what to do even as I cease to be young myself.  see NYC cigarettes

I'd feel more comfortable opposing it if males of my generation would stop dressing like 12 year olds. Tongue
