I find nothing more inspiring than giving disabled Bangladeshi gay immigrant kids lessons how to code and innovative entrepreneurship.

I find them enjoyable. My brother is actually organizing a local one right now.

One small pet peeve I have with them is when people treat them as "science" in debates, which is like calling a Tom Friedman column "political science". Still that's not TED's fault, so FF.

EDIT: Although I voted HP by accident Tongue

Love them. My high school organised a whole day of Ted talks (Tedx) about a year ago.

F**king awful. Mostly liberal feel-good bullsh**t about 'reaching your potential', and here's a load of rich people to show you how to do it. Just the lecture equivalent of the idiotic self-help/motivational section in WHSmiths.

Not having to watch TED talks is part of my definition of freedom, and I'm extremely suspicious of any class or potential career opportunity that heavily involves them.

I would be remiss if I didn't link to this comparison between TED and the Chautauqua movement:

While I'm generally on board with the dismissal of the TED movement as masturbatory snake-oil for the smug set... that "better dressed and better mannered" bit does not sit well with me at all.  I don't see what's intrinsically praiseworthy about soppy-stern old style hats and coats, if you know what I mean.

They seem really dumb. I watched one on C-SPAN and I didn't get much out of it.

Some are good and some are bad, the quality varies with that of the presenters.

FCs for sure, especially if I'm interested in the topic.

This is one where I really don't get the disdain for them. Ah well.
